Once upon a time, there lived four brothers. Their names were Beckett, Owen, Lucas, and Jack. They were known throughout the land as The Brothers Fite. This was not because they had an affinity for violence, but because their surname was Fite. These brothers were the best of friends, raised by their parents to be loving and kind and determined and just. Never had there been more loyal, athletic, adventurous brothers.
Beckett, the oldest of the brothers, grew up to be a great king. He protected his kingdom and served with grace and justice. He remained close with his younger brothers and always sought their counsel in times of need. The Brothers Fite earned the love of the entire kingdom and began a legacy of bravery and loyalty that carried on for generations. However, things were not always so wonderful for the brothers...
When the brothers were not quite men yet no longer boys, evil men in their father's court conspired to take control of the throne. You see, although King Nate was a kind man, he was not the wisest of men, and he often put his trust in those who did not deserve it. The faction that wanted to take over the kingdom knew that Beckett possessed the wisdom that the king did not, and feared that he would take away their power. Through schemes and lies, the men forced the king to banish Beckett, in the hopes that this would eliminate Beckett's chance of becoming king.
Beckett knew that something was amiss, but he respected his father and obeyed his command. Not wanting to hurt his brothers, Beckett gathered a few essential belongings and slipped out of the palace unseen. Or at least, he tried to.
"Beckett! Where do you think you're going?" Owen shouted as he raced after his brother.
"Owen, you know I have to go," Beckett responded with a sigh.
"Oh, I know, Beck," Owen shot back. He then added with a sly smile, "What I meant was, where do you think you're going without me?"
It was then that Beckett noticed Owen was carrying a backpack. Exasperated, Beckett said, "Owen, you can't come wi-"
"Wait for us!" Lucas called.
Lucas and Jack were scrambling down the garden path, each toting a backpack of their own.
"Come on, did you really think we were just going to let you go off on your own?" Owen said in that confident, easy-going way of his.
Even though he was a little irritated, Beckett was touched by his brothers' actions. He wanted so badly for his brothers to stay with him, but he knew what that would do to their father and the kingdom. Beckett tried to convince his brothers to let him go alone, but they wouldn't have it. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity of arguing, the Brothers Fite decided that Owen would go with Beckett, but Lucas and Jack would stay behind.
"We'll miss you guys," Lucas said glumly.
Jack, the youngest brother, grunted, "Ugh, you guys are going to have such a fun adventure without us."
"This isn't an adventure, Jack," Beckett explained. "It's exile."
"Why can't it be both?" Owen suggested.
With that, the brothers parted ways. Owen followed his older brother into exile, leaving Lucas and Jack to watch the kingdom and take over the throne when their father died. The evil schemers thought they could manipulate the young brothers, but they weren’t counting on their love and loyalty. The would-be usurpers also thought the banishment would destroy Beckett, but little did these men know that in banishing Beckett, they were setting him on an adventure that would give him the experience he needed to grow into the greatest king the kingdom had ever seen. Through their separation, the Brothers Fite learned what it truly means to be loyal, brave, kind, and true.
