One may not typically associate a mechanical engineering major at the University of Missouri to have created an upcoming local band. Yet, since the summer of 2021, Ryan Egan has successfully begun The Brink and served as a lead guitarist and vocalist. Ryan was gifted his first guitar at 8-years-old, but he did not truly fall in love with creating music until he first experienced the "emotional release" and "therapeutic aspect" of creating music as a teenager. Ryan has been a part of seven other bands (or as he would say, has been through “7 band divorces”) before creating The Brink, but none of his past experiences can compare to what he has now. Ryan has never before experienced being part of a band like The Brink, where five very different individuals come together respectfully and with passion to create beauty in music. From St Louis, Missouri, Ryan shines his zeal for creating, innovation and music in Columbia alongside four other band members that feel like family.

While Allyson Minor has been singing for her entire life, she did not recognize her own vocal talent until getting her driver’s license in high school. This is when she started singing by herself and playing guitar at around 15-years-old. Along with her lifelong experience, Allyson is a powerhouse. She practices her vocal range in the car singing to Adele. Her musical skill and versatility have only grown since becoming The Brink’s lead singer in the summer of 2021, but her decision to join was hesitant. Allyson thought the band would not reach success in Columbia, but she teamed up with The Brink after her friends’ encouragement. Now, she finds the most fulfillment in the band’s creative process because she had never finished making her own music. Through writing her own lyrics and collaborating with The Brink, Allyson has now produced six songs with her bandmates. Allyson is a recent graduate of The University of Missouri with a degree in Film Production.

Jackson Scheiter teaches Physics at Hickman high school, but his passion for music ultimately brought him together with The Brink. He has been playing guitar for 11 years, bass for 8 years and started freestyle rapping at 16-years-old. Jackson is a University of Missouri alumnus, and he first saw Ryan playing guitar on campus. He asked Ryan if he could join him with his own guitar, and Jackson later became The Brink’s bassist in the summer of 2021. Initially, he joined for fun and to meet new people. He now values his friendship with his co-members and playing music with them the most. Since joining The Brink, Jackson has integrated his rap into The Brink’s original songs and through his “daddy rap,” a nickname coined by the band for his rap mashup of multiple cover songs.

Alex Krewson’s high energy and fun-loving attitude is apparent both in his drumming as part of The Brink and in his conversations and interactions with others. This may be because of his easy-going demeanor and appreciation for the connections that he makes with people through the art of music. Alex has played drums for 11 years, saying that he started because he just wanted to “bang on shit”. He had to take several breaks from his passion due to being diagnosed with Arthritis and not having a band to play for. Now, he has found his place as a part of The Brink where he is able to go out and strive to accomplish his goal of being a versatile drummer like some of his main influences. Krewson is aiming to attend Moberly Area Community College in Columbia, Missouri where he has spent his entire life.

While Robyne Sieh is a more recent addition to The Brink, only joining the band in February of 2022, she has already brought a lot to the table. Since joining, the band has created several new original songs as well as expanded the genres of music that they are able to play and added keyboard parts to several existing covers. Robyne began playing piano at only 6-years-old, but she now enjoys playing in The Brink because she gets to play for herself and for fun rather than judges at a recital. Aside from her role in the band, Sieh is a double major at the University of Missouri on her way to earning degrees in both Composing and Public Health. Robyne says she admires the determination, motivation and passion that drive the band and their performances, something she’s never experienced before in her many years of playing.

When having a conversation with The Brink’s manager, Emma French, it wouldn’t take long for Emma to smile and say she considers herself the “mom” of the band. From keeping the band’s schedule organized to planning the many details of shows, Emma’s commitment behind the scenes to seeing the group succeed can be majorly attributed to rising popularity and success. From Tulsa, Oklahoma, Emma years ago would have never imagined becoming a band manager during her time studying psychology as a university of Missouri student. However, when Ryan Egan approached her in July of 2021 to be the band’s manager, something within her could not say no. Emma explained that, while stressful, seeing shows come together and succeed is the most gratifying sensation. Currently, Emma describes her agenda of matters to handle being packed full, but she promises that this means fans should be expecting exciting things to be coming soon for The Brink.
