Hello Seahawks!

My name is Ms. Coburn and I am SO excited to be your librarian at Southwind Elementary!  It is going to be a great year full of new friends, new adventures, and new discoveries.  This will be my fourth year at Southwind Elementary and I am THRILLED to have your child as my student.  My most important goal is to create a family of learners in the library.  I love sharing my passion and helping my students.  My favorite thing about being a librarian is, I am able to facilitate an environment that is a safe place for students to hangout and be themselves.

ABOUT ME:

I grew up in Brandon, Mississippi and relocated to the Memphis area in 2012.  I have 3 kids – Page (1) 6Luke (13) and Halle (12). I love reading, thrifting, fashion, podcasts, and all things out doors.  I can’t wait to get to know all of you!

Contact Me:

I love to have conversations with parents throughout the year.  Please always contact me with any questions or concerns.  I want to partner with you in order to best support your child.  Let’s make this an incredible year!   Coburnm@scsk12.org

Front Desk

by: Kelly Yang

Mia Tang and her parents live and work at the Calivista Motel in Anaheim, California. While her parents spend all of their time cleaning the rooms, Mia has taken it upon herself to manage the FRONT DESK and ensure that their guests -- including the Chinese immigrants that her parents hide in the empty rooms -- enjoy their stay. As she adjusts to life at the motel and her new school, Mia starts to realize that life isn't easy for outsiders in America. Can she use her love of writing, even though English isn't her first language, to help her family, friends, and the immigrants pursue their dreams?
