Bracing

Trussed rafters shall be suitably braced to support applied loads and self-weight without due movement. Bracing should be installed in accordance with the design.

  • Bracing to be a minimum size of 100mm x 25mm (3mm tolerance).

  • Fixed twice to each truss using 65mm 10-gauge nail.

  • Placed at the node points of the ceiling chord.

  • Longitudinal bracing at ridge and rafter node points.

  • Bracing should be continuous and were not possible lapped jointed by a minimum of 2 trusses.

  • All longitudinal bracing is required to be in contact with the gable to provide restraint.

  • Where there is a spandrel panel at the gable, the bracing must be fixed to the panel either into a stud member or via a timber ledger.

  • Diagonal bracing should be provided to all truss rafter roofs.

  • They should extend over two trusses and be fixed twice into every truss.

  • Diagonal bracing should extend to the wall plate and have two fixings into the plate.

  • If the bracing does not connect to the wall plate, provide additional timbers to the wall plate to allow for fixing.
