Section 6.1.1

General

External masonry shall be designed and constructed to support loads and transfer loads to the foundations safely and without undue movement.

  • Digital thermometer placed in the site office with the censor outside of a north facing window.

  • Temperature must be 2°C and rising before brickwork can start.

  • Work must stop when the temperature is 2°C and falling.

  • Bricks and blocks must be stacked well and separated by type.

  • Block identified by strength.

  • Materials should be covered from the elements and kept off the ground.

  • Keep loaded bricks and blocks dry during inclement weather.

  • Protect completed work at the end of each working day.

  • Bond internal blockwork to external walls using a brick tie at 225mm centres.

  • Alternatively, brick starter bars or bed reinforcement such as Expamet.
