Kyle Anderson has worn many hats as an educator. For 11 years, Kyle taught social studies, mainly American Government and United States History, at the high school level in Las Vegas. After a short stint as a educational technology coordinator and coach at a high school, he was appointed as a middle school dean. As a firm believer in family first, Kyle decided that it was not the right time to enter administration, and after six months, left his administrative role and took a position as a physical education teacher in an alternative school. The students were very tough, but it was a rewarding experience as a positive influence on students that needed a positive role model the most.
In the closing months of the 2017-2018 school year, Kyle's wife, Mary, began to apply to graduate school to pursue her Master's in Speech-Language Pathology. As the local colleges and universities in Las Vegas did not have such a program, it was a given that Kyle and his family would be making a move after nearly 13 years in Las Vegas. Mary was accepted to the University of Nevada in Reno in the spring of 2018. The job market for social studies and physical education teachers in the Reno area was very slim, so to expand the available options, Kyle applied for special education positions under the agreement that if hired, he would pursue a license to teach special education. Kyle accepted a position at Carson High School in Carson City, serving as a special education teacher with social studies and working an after school behavioral and credit retrieval program.
After two years in Carson City, Kyle and his family decided to return to Las Vegas when Mary finished her graduate program. In the midst of that, the COVID-19 pandemic began, thrusting schools into shutdown mode and changing how education is delivered. Kyle accepted a position at Clark High School as a special education teacher. While he misses Carson High School, the friends that he made, and being able to record the podcast with Ben in person, he is happy to be back in Las Vegas!
