Babies are born ready to learn language! They start by listening to familiar voices in the womb and can recognize these same voices at birth and beyond. Babies loved to be talked to. Provide them with a rich language nutrition through singing, talking, and pointing at items found in your everyday life. They may not understand right away but their brains are soaking in this information and storing it for later. As your child grows, they will begin to respond back to you. Continue to serve and return enriching their language and love for knowledge day in and out!
Connect with your baby by talking to them with a loving tone of voice, be sure give them lots of eye contact and smiles. Talk to your baby as you proceed through the day. Tell them what you are doing when baking, cleaning, working, running errands, etc. Be sure to use "real words" and not just baby talk, every word your child hears helps increase their vocabulary. Singing is a fun way to introduce words to your child. Children are naturally drawn to rhyming words, rhythms, and enjoy being silly. Older children enjoy being asked questions, be sure to ask them questions to keep the conversation going. Every opportunity for conversation is an opportunity to increase language nutrition.
