Improv is short for improvisational comedy. Essentially, all material is made up on the spot by our performers. Improv relies heavily on teamwork, quick thinking, and fun! There are two main types of improv that we practice here.
Longform improv usually consists of 20 minute segments of improv. There are many different longform "forms" that can be performed, such as 6 Degrees, Murder Mystery, Harolds, etc.
Shortform is what you typically think of when you think of improv. If you have ever watch "Who's Line Is It Anyway?" then you have seen shortform improv. This form mainly consists of short, fun games and is considered to be a good starting place to learn the foundations of improv.
Come to our Monday academies to learn the ropes of improv! No experience required.
What to expect at academies:
Academies are held every Monday from 7pm-9pm (check our socials to confirm)!
We open with our GBM portion where we go over upcoming events and important information.
Then, we break off into longform and shortform groups.
If you are new, we recommend that you stick in the shortform group for a while to learn the foundations of improv!
At the end, we all go back to the beginning room and tell puns and jokes for the last few minutes.
There is a jam listed for this week, what is that?
During school holidays and the summer semester, we host jams, which are chill improv sessions where we play fun games and try new things.
You can show up to a jam with absolutely no improv experience!
During jams we may spend half of the time doing shortform and the other half doing long form.
Depending on the group size, we may or may not split into two groups.
Jams are a great way to met new people and to learn new improv games and forms
