Through the arts, we bridge divides between individuals, student orgs, and departments by using underutilized spaces and resources on campus to build stronger community and spark interdisciplinary collaboration.
Concerts
We run an ongoing series of concerts on campus, booking spaces and creating a fun, inviting environment for students to perform.
In need of:
Performers (even open to beginners.) We don’t ask that you’re perfect, we ask that you try.
Student vendors to sell their art here. We have a tip jar where proceeds also go to charity.
A sound person to help at the shows.
Photographers or videographers to capture the energy of the shows.

General Meetings - Open Creative Space and Workshops
Starting Spring 2026, The Art Life will host monthly general meetings. These meetings specifically play the dual roles of facilitating conversations between different creative disciplines on campus so that collaborations can arise, and also being an open space for people to create, or share what they love with others. Also, there will be pizza.
In need of:
Students who want to teach a workshop about a particular creative skill that they love
Representatives from any creative student org at all to attend and brainstorm ideas
Email us with ideas or introduce yourself at theartlifeumbc@gmail.com!
Expanding The Art Life Team
In general, The Art Life needs people of all types to keep it up and running. So far, Jason and Duncan have been doing the brunt of the work in most areas. We are looking to delegate some of this work to others, to free our minds to pursue the high-stakes work of facilitating those connections, contacting the big scary faculty people, and directing the larger events.
Don’t hesitate to get involved! Even if you don’t feel fully confident in your skills we want to hear from you. What’s most important to us is that you desire to learn and grow. Just email us at theartlifeumbc@gmail.com and we can chat!
Murals
We have the opportunity to do a series of small murals in the Sondheim Basement., in conjunction with the Environmental Science Department.
Project lead: Duncan Winger (dwinger1@umbc.edu)
