My name is Theadora Ranis, and I am originally from Onalaska, Wisconsin. I am a current graduate student who is based in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. My passion for Student Affairs began with my employment as a Resident Assistant and has continued since then. I consider myself to be a servant leader and a lover of spicy foods!
I attended the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse from 2020 - 2024. I earned my undergraduate degree in Early Middle Education with a dual certification in Special Education. During my time at UW-La Crosse, I served in multiple campus clubs, including the National Residence Hall Honorary. While I was earning my degree, I worked as a substitute teacher to gain experience in the education world. In my undergraduate career, I worked with students as young as 3rd grade and as old as 12th grade, both in general education and special education settings.
During my sophomore year of college, I became involved with the Residence Life program at UW-La Crosse and worked as a Resident Assistant. This is where I found my passion for working with college students, specifically, freshman students. I continued as a Resident Assistant for a 2nd year and grew more confident in my skills. During my senior year, I served as a Senior Staff, a Resident Assistant who worked closely with the Hall Director to help supervise the rest of the RA for a semester. That experience is one that I credit with having the largest influence on me to pursue a degree in Student Affairs.
During my student teaching semester, I realized how much I missed working with college students and began looking for employment that would allow me to work with them again. In March of 2024, I accepted a position at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire as a Graduate Hall Director and enrolled in the online Student Affairs Administration program at UW-La Crosse. I had the opportunity to attend the UMR-ACUHO conference in 2024. In my time as the graduate Hall Director, I received housing committee assignments that strengthened my advising and leadership skills. These included being an advisor for the Residence Hall Association, the Society of Housing Leaders, and the Judicial Board. I also served as the Summer Aspenson Mogensen Operations Manager, the Early Arrivals Coordinator, and organized the annual "UWEC Trick or Treat in the Halls" community event.
As I finish my final semester of graduate school, my passion stands firmly in Residence Life and Student Engagement. Through my graduate program, I had numerous experiences that helped me grow as a leader within my role as a Hall Director and reignite my love of student involvement. Whether it was being the advisor for the Aspenson Mogensen Hall Council or managing the operations of a move-in and move-out process within the span of two weeks, my graduate assistantship has greatly prepared me to enter the professional workforce to make a difference in the campus community. I hope to do this by earning a full-time Hall Director or student involvement-related position within the UW-System.
