The Adhaan Project is an initiative of Lutfi Othman, a Singaporean artist and researcher in Sound Arts and Sound Studies who is currently based in London. His interest in sound lies in the role that it plays in religion and spirituality. As a researcher, he explores the role that sound plays in shaping the parameters of Islamic piety and belief, while his creative work as an experimental musician draws inspiration from this research, investigating the parallels between improvisation and religion through a loop-based improvisation method.
Lutfi recently completed his Bachelor in Sound Arts & Design at the London College of Communication, and has previously attained a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Monash University, Victoria. He is currently reading for a Masters (Music) in Ethnomusicology at King's College, London.
Istishhad Hheva (Project Manager) is an electronic music composer and researcher based in London where he has completed a B.A. Hons. in Sound Art & Design from the London College of Communication. His creative work features extensive sample manipulation through the employment of stretching algorithms and granular synthesis, in conjunction to the use of randomisation as a compositional tool. His research gravitates towards the critical analysis of the relationship between significance and materiality in systems constituted by sound.
In addition, he directs Phas.e Platform, a London based multi-disciplinary platform with a focus on sound related art and theory, where he produces calls for sound works, academic articles, podcasts, and coordinates showcase events for their roster of associated internationally based artists.
