Date: 25 – 28 May 2026
Taipei Zoo, Taiwan
The 6th Joint TAG Meeting will be held at Taipei Zoo, Taiwan, from 25 to 28 May 2026, bringing together professionals from across the zoo and aquarium community and related conservation fields. For the first time, the meeting will be open to all interested participants in equivalent positions, not only TAG Chairs, creating a broader platform for collaboration and exchange.
The Meeting will focus on building stronger relationships, both among TAGs and with external conservation organisations, to better leverage collective expertise and resources. Participants will explore how effective partnerships can enhance population management, conservation outcomes, and knowledge sharing across regions.
Building on the previous Joint TAG Meetings, this event will highlight key developments, emerging trends, and successful inter-regional collaborations, while providing a unique opportunity to network, share experiences, and learn from one another’s achievements and challenges in advancing global population management and conservation goals.
Dear TAG friends old and new!
It is with pleasure that I invite you to the 6th Joint Taxon Advisory Group (TAG) Meeting.
This is a Meeting of many firsts… It is the first JTAG meeting in the Southeast Asian region, with our welcoming hosts from Taiwan, Taipei Zoo.
This is also the first time that this gathering is open to all interested participants, not only TAG Chairs and Vice Chairs, but everyone working across our shared fields of conservation, population management, and species recovery.
More than a forum for discussion, this meeting will be a space for connection. Together, we will explore how to strengthen collaboration both between TAGs and with external conservation partners, continue to bridge the gap between ex situ and in situ efforts, and find new ways to leverage the diverse expertise within our global community.
Taipei Zoo will be the most incredible of hosts and I have no doubt they will ensure that we experience the beauty of this island’s rich culture and biodiversity. In doing so, let us be reminded of the importance of balance and exploring the diverse ways of conservation across regions and disciplines.
JTAG is a unique and inspiring assembly where we share openly, listen generously, and build the partnerships that will shape the next chapter of our collective.
Join us in Taiwan - see you there!

President of WAZA Council
Dear esteemed TAG partners,
It is with immense pleasure and excitement that I welcome you to the 6th Joint TAG Meeting, a historic gathering to be hosted by Taipei Zoo, Taiwan.
As the Director of Taipei Zoo, I am deeply honored to welcome all TAG Chairs, TAG Vice Chairs, TAG members, IUCN Specialist Groups, in-situ partners, and all colleagues who share our commitment to population management, animal welfare, and global conservation. Your work is fundamental to the future of species management, and we are eagerly anticipating your presence here in Taipei.
The 6th Joint TAG Meeting, which takes place from 25–28 May 2026, marks a significant milestone: the first time in its eleven-year history that this conference will be held in Asia. This gathering is designed to be an extraordinary platform for us to foster cross-regional collaboration, share cutting-edge approaches, and deepen the integration of our ex-situ and in-situ expertise.
Following the successful 5th Joint TAG Chairs Meeting, we are committed to building a programme that encourages open dialogue, reflection, and collective learning. The 2026 meeting is expanding its scope to include more interactive formats—workshops, discussion groups, and regional exchanges—and, most importantly, integrating voices from the IUCN Specialist Groups and field-based conservation initiatives to bridge the gap between our communities.
Let's dive into conversations about transformative leadership and measurable species impact, fueled by a spirit of collaboration and energized by the vibrant culture and famous delicacies of Taipei!
Welcome to Taiwan!
