Meet the Masterminds
My name is Ms. Nina. I am currently a high school teacher. I reached out by email to Aedan to congratulate him on his Chavez-Huerta Activism Award, and he shared with me his vision for the "100 Voices" Project. I was thrilled to hear of it because I really felt like he had truly heard Dolores Huerta’s call to action at the award symposium on two pending bills regarding Immigration Reform and Election Reform. I am the Project Advisor for “100 Voices” and am honored to be a part of this student-led activism in honor of Dolores Huerta and Cesar Chavez’ legacy.
Hi!
I am Aedan. I'm 13, live in Texas, and am in the 7th grade. I am the Communications Director/Project Manager for the 100 Voices Project, which means I'm always asking the team, "How’s it going?". I also help brainstorm ideas. A random fact about me is that I thought one of the teachers said "follow me" on the first day of school. So, I followed her all the way through the building into an empty classroom where all of the chairs were on top of the desks. When I asked, "Where shall I sit?" the teacher looked up at me and said, "Who are you?" I had accidentally followed a random teacher to the wrong classroom! When I'm not working on the 100 Voices Project or doing school on Teams, I play video games online as Wintersalt.
Hey, I’m Edward. I’m 15 years old, I live in Texas and am in 10th grade. I am the Website Director for the 100 Voices Project and basically, make sure the website has the correct information and that it’s regularly updated. A fun fact about me is that I am the oldest sibling out of 5. I have 4 sisters and 1 brother. When I am not at school or working on the project, I am usually either scrolling through Twitter or on FaceTime with a friend.
Hello, my name is Alejandra and I am 18 years old. I am currently a senior in High School. I live in one of the biggest cities (Houston, Texas). My role in the team is to help publicize the 100 Voice Project on social media and school outlets. For instance, one of my tasks was to create a poster to encourage others to join or participate in the project. Here are some interesting facts about me: I am the Valedictorian of my senior class, one of the top 6 cadets in the HISD school district, a phi beta kappa scholarship recipient, the President of the National Honor Society, and a part of 9 different clubs/ organizations. Outside of school hours, I like to play video games with friends, spend time with my family, and overall relax.
I am Helan. I'm 17, live in Texas, and am in the 11th grade. I am the Content Creation Director for the 100 Voices Project, which means I'm asked to look at the content we make on any posters, websites, and even our documentary. I brainstorm ideas to help with the content and see if changes need to be done. A random fact about me is that I thought I could play volleyball with tight khaki pants on. I had worn khaki pants the whole day at school but towards the end, some kids wanted to play volleyball. I love playing volleyball so I joined in on the fun with them. I was doing just fine, when one of the students hit the ball low and I thought I could hit it back. I dropped down low to hit it, but while hitting it back to the other student, I heard my pants rip in the middle. I immediately took off my jacket and wrapped it around my hips so it wasn’t seen. I laughed at what had just happened as I was heading home.
