I have always been a lover of language and the subtle nuances of human communication. I am an avid reader (especially of fantasy), writer (mostly of academic text), and noticer of interesting ways that people use language in day-to-day interactions. I have a great appreciation for linguistic creativity and am passionate about helping people express themselves in the clearest ways while remaining true to their unique personal language.
I received my PhD in Linguistics from the University of Minnesota. Studying linguistics has helped me better understand and appreciate language in all its complex and beautiful forms, and given me the tools to not only notice but to explain why some thing just sound right or wrong. In particular, my linguistic work has focused on the language of social media and how people use nonstandard typography to convey emotional and intonational information that is otherwise difficult to convey with text. The creativity of writers on the internet never fails to amaze me!

I currently work as a Proofreader and Production Associate for an early-education academic publisher, working on textbooks and curricula for teaching reading to children.
