Paul Temple has been asked by a Mrs Milbourne to investigate the mysterious circumstances surrounding the supposed death of her husband Carl Milbourne in a car accident in Switzerland.

When Paul and Steve are asked to investigate a case of blackmail and murder, they soon find that violence has been brought right to their own doorstep.

3: A Note for Danny

Danny Clayton offered to tell Mrs Milbourne where her husband was in return for £ 5,000, the money to be delivered to a houseboat on the Thames. When Paul Temple, who had arranged to hand over the money to Clayton. arrived at the houseboat. he found a dead body and a book-called 'Too Young To Die.'

Danny Clayton asks Paul and Steve to go with him to Geneva to see Julia Carrington, who is being blackmailed. On the boat crossing the channel Danny receives a warning letter-' Be careful-you're too young to die. Mr. Clayton.'

An attempt was made to shoot Paul Temple as he and Steve were out on a sleigh ride. Later, when they were on their way to visit Julia Carrington , they found a man almost buried in the snow - it was Vince Langham , who had been stabbed.

His widowed sister Margaret is increasingly convinced that her husband is still alive - and she wants Paul Temple to investigate! Paul and Steve find that their own lives are soon in danger as they become embroiled in a deception stretching from London to Switzerland.
