What made you decide you wanted to organize a TEDx event? What inspired you?
As a teacher and as a human being, I learn so much from being a part of TEDx, hearing all of the incredible speeches. The takeaway I get from the whole process is that every single person has a story to tell. Everyone is going through something. There’s always another way to look at the world. TED expands perception via exposure to new ideas and people. I feel blessed to be a part of such an innovative platform of communication.
What is your goal in hosting a TEDx event?
To give my students the opportunity to share their ideas that matter on a global platform. In the age of digital media, the art of speaking is getting lost. Events like this TEDx help inspire students to hone their public speaking skills and the ability to access a substantial audience of people seeking new ideas and ways to think about things.
With the recent rise in the suppression of free speech on college campuses, we want to equip our students to be able to listen to ideas and concepts that they disagree with and be able to articulate their arguments against these things, rather than suppress personal expression.
