Many people are faced with oral challenges throughout their lives. These challenges could come from teeth coming in crooked, they could come from canker sores, they could come from biting their cheeks and not being able to heal the wound. These are just a few of things that could happen inside our mouths that would give us many hardships.
For me, I have been battling two different challenges that have gone on within my mouth for the past 6 years. The first thing that has given me problems is what is called a mucocele. A mucocele is similar to a cyst. Mine happens to be on the inside of my bottom lip right in front of my bottom incisors. I seem to get by with no troubles for the most part, but if I happen to bite the mucocele, it swells up and I continue to bite it over and over again for the foreseeable future.
Although a quick trip to the dentist would result in the removal of my mucocele, I just haven’t taken the time to schedule the appointment. I imagine I will get tired of biting the mucocele one of these days and finally force myself to schedule the appointment to get it removed. For now, it hasn’t bothered me enough to do anything about it.
The second thing I have been battling is what is called lichen planus. I have had lichen planus in my mouth for what seems like forever. For this particular challenge, I have been to the dentist and doctor multiple times to try to fix the problem. Unfortunately, there is no cure for lichen planus. When there is “no cure” for something it often drives people to find a remedy at all costs. Surely there is something out there that can help the situation. And this has been the case for myself. I have vowed to try anything and everything in order to lessen the effects of lichen planus. More than anything, lichen planus burns and hurts a great deal when eating food.
This has led me to what I believe is the best, and really the only, remedy I have found. Whenever I feel the onset of my lichen planus flaring up, I begin to torch it with listerine mouthwash. I’m not for sure why this particular mouthwash helps lichen planus, and I really don’t care why, I just know I will continue to use it as a remedy. Not only is the mouthwash good for my lichen planus, it’s also good to kill unwanted bacteria build up in my mouth.
