The Village Singers is a small, Sydney based, group of singers that specialize in performing songs from the 1940s to the 1970s. Our singing group is a pool of seven performers from which we configure a troupe of at least two singers up to seven depending upon singer availability and venue space.
We perform musical cabaret shows for residents in aged care (hostel, low and high care), day clubs and retirement villages. Our songs are performed using a microphone, speakers and prerecorded backing tracks, with minimum set up at the venue. Our repertoire is specifically targeted towards the era of the resident's younger days.
A typical performance runs for about an hour. We introduce the songs with a short dialogue relevant to the era and the original performer. Where appropriate, we engage the audience with sing-a-longs. We promote audio, visual and physical stimulation by encouraging the residents to dance to the music and/or sing along to the songs, or to just clap their hands and tap their toes. We perform for the enjoyment of the residents and respected community members, whose memories are triggered in response to the nostalgic music. We aim to make a difference to their lives - by bringing a smile to their faces.
We give of our time and musical skills for no charge but where possible, we appreciate light refreshments after our show.
