The Upper Ards
An Exploration by JJ Tohill
An Exploration by JJ Tohill
J.J. Tohill’s book is a major new contribution to the history of the Upper Ards, taking readers on a journey from the Megalithic era through the centuries and exploring the lives, traditions and events that have shaped this often overlooked but deeply valued corner of County Down. Richly illustrated with superb colour photographs, detailed maps and drawings, the book also brings together many lesser-known stories and local insights that will be new even to many local readers.
As Chairman of the Upper Ards Historical Society, Gerard Lennon has warmly congratulated J.J. Tohill on the publication of what he describes as an outstanding account of the history of the Upper Ards. He praises the book as a labour of love, reflecting both deep knowledge and a clear passion for preserving local heritage. Paul Clements has also commended the book as an attractive and richly produced volume, full of quirky stories that will be new to many readers. He notes in particular the strength of the Joe Tomelty chapter and The Golfer’s Alphabet, and praises the way the book does justice to the towns and villages of this forgotten and beautiful area.
All proceeds are going to the charities of the De Paul Society and the Salvation Army.
