March 22, 2024: This week our group was able to collect over 30 samples of soil on Sant' Erasmo. Next week we are excited to start the process of soil testing for salinity. This coming Monday we plan to utilize our soil collection protocol at a new location in the Venetian Lagoon and continue our project. Below you will see some pictures of our groups progress this week.
March 28th, 2024: For our week two progress we were able to go to Lido for two more field locations where we collected more soil samples for soil analysis. Our previous samples from Sant' Erasmo were tested this week for soil salinity and we were able to finalize our protocol.
April 8th, 2024 - For our week 3 progress, our group traveled to Mira and Sant'Erasmo to collect our final soil samples! We have officially tested 58 out of the 100 collected samples and have explored further data analysis. Our team has further worked to clean up/update our arcGIS map to appropriately display our EC measurements.
April 12th, 2024: This week we have made a lot of progress in our data analysis and we plan to have all our testing done by Monday, next week. Now our goals consist of developing the findings of our project and seeing what story they tell. Below you will see the progress we have made with our arcGIS map, which is one of our main deliverables of our project.
April 19th, 2024: For our team's week 5 progress, we began by finishing soil testing and creating a halophyte pamphlet. Our halophyte pamphlet displays four different halophyte species and relevant information for each including a visual description, where it grows, its optimal salinity ranges and its uses. For the remainder of the week, we focused on data analysis and our presentation.
April 30th, 2024: This week we finished our project! Our team has worked hard to finalize our deliverables, consisting of the ArcGIS map and the halophyte booklet. On top of these deliverables, we practiced and completed our final presentation and thanked our amazing sponsors. The final report was completed and can be found on our report page. Overall, this has been an amazing experience and we hope that our work with The Tidal Garden can help support sustainable agriculture in Venice!
