About Me

Brief History:

Born in South India, where I spent most of my childhood until my late teens. Wasn't a model student, but still liked by most. The first time I went to America was back in May 1990. My aunt (mom's sister), at that time was getting married at the Hindu Temple in Malibu, California, so we attended the wedding. However, two years after, my grandfather (mom's dad), passed away on September 16th, 1992. He was a heavy smoker. Ironically, I had a premonition about his death, a few months prior. I dismissed it as a bad dream, because in the 'premonition', his silloutte body was in an iced coffin and was oscillating back and forth gradually. When we got the news that he had died, it was September 16th, 1992, 8:58 pm. When my parents and I arrived at my grandfather's place, I noticed that the body was surrounded by ice blocks, with cotton stuffed up his nostrills. I believe that the ice blocks were placed around the body to prevent the smell of the body getting to the surrounding people who were there.

Fast forward to October 24, 1996, my parents and I migrated to New Zealand and remained there for the next 14 or so odd years. During my residency in New Zealand, I had an administration job and a sales job, and I tried to learn something good from the positions I have held. Before I landed these positions however, I was studying a degree in computer science, which I later realized that it wasn't my cup of tea. I moved on to doing a short course in small screen and multimedia production and moved on to doing to what the NZQA referred to as the National Certificate in Film and Television, which included a bit about broadcast radio and broadcast law. It was a course that touched on the basics, and nothing more.

Fast forward to 2009, when I took the trip to California again, this time, I had decided to pursue my degree in America. And after putting in an application for a student visa (twice), I got it. I first started with communitee college, where I picked up a couple of screenwriting and television production in the studio classes, and made a few friends in the process. After a couple of years in community college, I moved to a four year college and underwent an intense degree progam: BFA in Filmmaking. During the program, there were a couple of important pieces of knowledge I gained, and I am thankful for this. One was how to efficiently direct actors when you aren't getting the performance that you need out of them, and the second was the different visual elements of directing and directing styles, given the track record of famous directors. I graduated from this program in 2016 and gained one year of experience in the industry, because of the type of visa I had, I was only allowed me to work in the industry I was training for. I only was able to volunteer work, and this was the perfect opportunity for me to distinguish between a good film, a bad or terrible film and a great film. I started applying this to my own screenplays. Instead of looking at things subjectivily, I started looking at it objectivily. I also learnt that the statistics showed that only 1 out of 10 screenplays ever get made.

In addition, I learnt everything I possibly could about cameras primarily through YouTube videos and partly through cinematography classes, and what type of cameras that people were using. I then compared this to what I was taught back in film school and found differing opinions. Some were more contradictory than the others were. I also realised that the opinions were extremely biased and they had the mentality that said: "You are not a professional if you don't have or use this camera", or this equipment or that equipment to begin with. Complete fallacy. I also realized that the best camera is the one you have on you, and that as long as you understood the pros and cons of what you have available, you can use it to your advantage when making a film.

I recently was diagnosed with Autism, but it is on the generous side of the spectrum, instead of the severe side. I am continuing to do what I do best and improving my screenwriting craft.

If there are any of you who are celebrities, producers or filmmakers, you may soon find yourself working with me and you will be surprised how much of an asset I am to you, so I am looking forward to this.
