Write your Music and Sing

Self-Expression Through Writing

Writing your music can spark lots of creativity and give you a sense of self-expression. Most importantly, you can no longer, such bound by an "ordinary" song format and can write meaningful music. Using music for self-expression can be helpful in any part of your life. There are lots of creative ways to write your piece. Check out some examples below to get you started.

Self-Expression Through Writing

When you first start writing your music, make sure to have fun with it! Take your time. Feel what it is you're writing and let it flow. There are a few ways you can come up with lyrics. Think of a monumental time in your life that changed you forever. On a notepad, write about the experience, how it made you feel, and what you learned. Another way to come up with lyrics is by thinking of topics that deal with society at large such as politics, poverty, religious differences, war, fighting for freedoms, speaking about leaders in a movement, etc. It can be a topic that you have a strong view on and feel passionate about sharing your perspective with people. You learn over time how to connect your lyrics with emotion to express how you feel and the personal message you want to get across.

If you have a hard time feeling inspired, listen to someone else’s music that brings up a strong emotion and start contemplating why it affects you. Listen to the lyrics carefully and how it goes with the theme. You can even write down the songs and write how it affects you emotionally. Also, consider finding someone who knows how to write for other musicians and see if you can ask for their opinion.

Share Your Song With The World

Once you have a song, I recommend making your melodies out of a collection of several different songs. So that you can get familiar with how various instruments sound together, try out different instruments on top of each other. Sometimes we play the same instruments when we try out different melodies. When you write your music, make sure to write for various instruments. Try writing some tunes for bass and drums as you add in different sounds. One fun way to play with your song is to make it for different types of niches. For example, if you're writing your music for your children, try writing some melodies for the piano. Think of the niche that you want to put your music out to and come up with songs with a few different instruments that will resonate with them.

Go beyond what you can do on your own. Let the music you wrote for yourself take you to a higher level. When you can play it for yourself and enjoy it, you will feel a sense of freedom that no one else can give you.
