Title: The Soul of Wellfleet
Artist: Farrukh Najmi
Date: December 2024
Description by the Artist
This painting is a tribute to my dear friend Chuck Cole, and his persistence, perseverance, and commitment to world peace.
Every Saturday morning, snow, rain, or shine, Chuck sits in a vigil for peace, playing his peace drums, in front of the iconic Wellfleet Town Hall. He then does another vigil for peace at the iconic Eastham Windmill. He has been doing this every Saturday since the September 11, 2001 attack. He smiles and waves to passersby. Friends and strangers drop by and chat with him or join him in his peace vigil.
To me, Chuck is the very soul and essence of Wellfleet.
Many superb artists have painted Chuck. I consider this humble tribute as showing a candle to the Sun.
