The Sound of Water
Anya Figert

Ocean waves chase seafoam near the beach.
I’m out of breath because I must keep
My head above
The surface.
Rain rattles the blue part of the Earth;
Thunder cracks as a streak of light is birthed.
It doesn’t have a pleasant peal
Except
If I pause
When I hear the Sound
Of the Water.
The waves are the cymbals clashing
Together,
The thunder is singing,
The rain is the ringing to fill in
When thunders gone, to fill in the
Gaps of liquid song
I can breathe when I go under, I cackle
With the thunder,
I play along,
For the Sound of the Water has been my memories
All along.
