The Journey That Inspired Safe Harbor Financial Coaching
In 2019, God began leading my wife, Ruth, and me on a journey that would permanently change the direction of our financial future.
At the time, we were busy raising a family, serving in church, and managing the demands of everyday life. During simple Costco dates and walks around El Cajon, California, we found ourselves having deeper conversations about our future, our goals, and what we hoped retirement and ministry would eventually look like.
Those conversations led us to take a closer look at our finances. We began running numbers, setting goals, revising plans, and learning to think differently about money and stewardship.
In 2021, we attended our first Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University class. That experience became a turning point. Although we had avoided credit card debt, we were carrying over $1 million in total debt, the vast majority of it tied to mortgages and vehicle loans. We realized that if we wanted true financial freedom in retirement, we needed a long-term plan and the discipline to follow it.
Over the following years, we made significant changes. We sold a rental property, applied much of the proceeds toward our mortgage, and committed to making consistent additional principal payments. The journey required sacrifice, difficult decisions, and perseverance, but it completely changed the trajectory of our future.
Today, we are on track to retire debt-free in 2029 and look forward to a season focused more fully on serving the Lord, investing in others, and living with greater freedom and peace.
That journey is why I am passionate about teaching Financial Peace University and providing financial coaching. I have experienced firsthand how biblical principles, intentional planning, and consistent discipline can transform a family's future. My desire is to come alongside others as they build the habits, confidence, and stewardship needed to pursue their own financial goals and experience lasting financial peace.
