The research plan will consist in four work packages. Its time line runs over three years.
Work Package 1.
Conceptual clarifications of the terms ‘repeatability’, ‘replicability’ and ‘reproducibility’.
Work package 2.
Repeatability and replicability as foundational values in science.
Research outputs: The work carried out in the first year will produce two papers: 1. Repeatable but not replicable? How this can be (im)possible. 2. The replication crisis and some clarifications on the necessary conditions for a measurement to be scientific.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Work package 3.
The role of metaphysics in understanding replicability and reproducibility.
Research outputs: The work carried out in the second year will produce two papers: 1. A metaphysical approach to the problem of replicability. 2. Replicability or Reproducibility? Should Metaphysics matter?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Work package 4.
The role of mathematics in the concept of repeatability and replicability.
Research outputs: The work carried out in the third year will produce three papers: 1. The trivalent role of mathematics in repeatability and replicability; 2. What non-repeatability in quantum mechanics teaches us on the role of mathematics. 3. If mathematics hinders scientific progress.
