About Me

Hello, and welcome!

My name is Dr Lucy Bennett and I'm a lecturer at the school of Journalism, Media and Culture (JOMEC) at Cardiff University.

ACADEMIC WORK

I teach and research popular music and fandom, and more widely, media audiences. At JOMEC I teach and designed the BA undergraduate modules Popular Music, Media and Culture (third years), and Media Fandom (second years). I also supervise BA, MA, and PhDs in these areas.

I'm passionate about music. I did my PhD on online fandom surrounding the band R.E.M. and have published a variety of academic articles and book chapters on music fans. In 2012 I co-founded the Fan Studies Network with Dr Tom Phillips, and have engaged in various other work, such as being a consultant for YouTube (California) on their engagement with fans, and working on different research projects.

MUSIC JOURNALISM

I have also recently started publishing interviews with musicians for God is in the TV. I hope to develop further my music writing and publishing.

I'm passionate too about the music scene in Wales/Cardiff and am on the jury for the Welsh Music Prize, and on the judging panel for the Cardiff Music Awards. I aim to include on this webspace different guides and info on the music scene in the area.

Overall, this webpage will act as a space for my music writings and also my academic work. As time allows I will add more elements to it.

I would be happy to hear from anyone, and can be reached at bennettl@cf.ac.uk
