Hello
I want to thank you for your inquiry and often the first thing people ask is …. I am signed up now what? I will attempt to answer this in a frequently asked question manor. If there are any questions left unaddressed to your satisfaction, please free to contact me for clarification.
Do I need to have a FOID card to take the class?
No but you will need it when you apply for your Concealed Carry Permit. Go to www.ispfsb.com and there is a lot of information on how to obtain your FOID card and the Concealed Carry permit process. http://illinoiscarry.com is also a very good web site that has a lot of information about Illinois concealed carry.
Do I need my own gun for the class?
No, you do not need a gun. I have a couple of Guns you may borrow, or you may use someone else’s gun for the course. You must provide the ammo for the training. If you do not have a FOID card you can buy the ammo from me for the class. You can use any caliber gun to qualify with and train with. I reserve the right to disallow the use of a handgun for the training if it is not appropriate for a concealed carry application. You may use a revolver and or a semi auto pistol for the training and qualification.
What other equipment do I need?
You will need eye protection. (Safety glasses or sunglasses)
I have hearing protection for you to use, foam earplugs, but if you have your own feel free to bring it. I have found that quality earmuffs that have microphones in them and sound canceling are very helpful. The deeper the ear cup on the headset often means more hearing protection. I do have loaner hearing protection of this type. Please wear closed toe shoes, no sandals or flip flops during shooting. Think to yourself, could a hot shell casing get in my shoe and burn my foot?
A ball cap is a good idea. Also make sure you wear a shirt that has a closed collar to prevent hot brass from going down your shirt.
Pen and paper for any note taking.
You will need 30 rounds of ammunition for the qualification shoot. I suggest people try to bring 200 rounds of ammo and if we do not need to use it all we won’t.
How do I transport my gun to the class and when will I need it?
We will not typically shoot the first class session but you can bring your firearm. If you do bring the firearm make sure that it is unloaded, in some kind of case, and the ammunition is separate from the handgun.
On a side note I would like to explain that I use laser pistols for dry practice. This device lets us get good trigger time without actually firing ammunition. This has proven to be very valuable for shooters of all skill levels. When we are doing dry practice ( shooting the laser device) we will also incorporate information on a variety of topics related to the training. The goal is to get a maximum amount of trigger practice during the training time. When we start shooting live rounds there will be one shooter per instructor . This ensures one to one coaching.
What is the first thing covered in class?
The first thing covered in class will be the four safety Laws, or rules as they are also called.
TREAT EVERY FIREARM LIKE IT IS LOADED.
ONLY POINT THE WEAPON AT THINGS YOU ARE WILLING TO DESTROY.
KEEP YOUR FINGER INDEXED AND OUTSIDE THE TRIGGER GUARD UNTIL YOU ARE READY TO FIRE.
KNOW YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT.
What is the cost?
the cost of the class is $220.00 per client. If I need to provide ammo to you the cost will be what it has cost me. The prices are starting to come down but a rule of thumb is $25.00 per box of 50 rounds, unless I can find cheaper ammo.
The classroom is in a pole shed that is insulated so it will not be too hot or cold, but dress for the weather and your personal tolerance. I have a porta potty for restroom breaks. Bring your lunch and snacks as we will have a working lunch. Bring your drinks as well. Bring a comfy lawn chair to sit in.
Thank you
