When you're looking for proxies that won't drain your budget, Webshare keeps popping up in every forum and Reddit thread. They launched just three years ago, yet they've carved out a solid reputation in the "cheap but capable" category. The question is: can proxies this affordable actually handle real work?
I spent time testing their service with 10 proxies to find out. Here's what actually happened when theory met reality.
Most proxy providers either charge premium prices or deliver questionable quality. Webshare sits in an interesting middle ground. Their datacenter proxies handle high internet speeds without the usual bottlenecking you'd expect from budget options. This makes them suitable for anonymous browsing, accessing geo-blocked content, and data scraping.
The pricing structure is refreshingly straightforward. Unlike competitors who hide bandwidth limits in fine print, Webshare lays everything out clearly. You're looking at private proxies (meaning you alone have access to them) starting at genuinely low rates. They've recently added residential proxies to their lineup as well.
Their proxies are HTTP/HTTPS only—no SOCKS5 support yet. For many use cases, this isn't a dealbreaker.
Webshare offers three tier levels based on your bandwidth and thread needs:
Starter Plan works for light users. You get 4,000+ proxies with bandwidth ranging from 50GB ($4/month) up to 5,000GB ($140/month). Maximum threads cap at 1,000.
Standard Plan doubles your thread capacity to 2,000, with bandwidth packages from 250GB ($15/month) to 10,000GB ($300/month). Same proxy count.
Professional Plan removes thread limitations (10,000+) and scales from 1,000GB ($80/month) to 50,000GB ($834/month). If you're running serious operations, this tier makes sense.
The price-per-gigabyte drops significantly as you scale up, which rewards commitment.
Webshare maintains servers in 10 locations: USA, United Kingdom, Italy, France, Germany, Sweden, Poland, Rome, Chile, and South Africa. When comparing this to established providers with dozens of locations, it's limited. But for most practical applications, these locations cover the major regions you'd actually need.
If your work demands highly specific geographic targeting—say, proxies from Southeast Asia or multiple South American countries—you'll need to look elsewhere.
I ran four different tests on the proxies to see how they actually perform under pressure.
Using speedtest.net, I measured ping from each proxy to the nearest server. The results ranged from 174ms to 281ms. Not spectacular, but reasonable considering distance factors. My baseline without a proxy was 2ms.
Higher pings mean more delay, which can affect gaming or real-time applications. For web scraping, content access, and general browsing, these numbers work fine. Remember that ping heavily depends on your physical distance from the server location.
Here's where things got interesting. About 80% of the proxies actually enhanced download speeds compared to my direct connection. One proxy hit an impressive 120.05 Mbps download speed.
This contradicts the common assumption that proxies always slow you down. Webshare's infrastructure clearly handles traffic efficiently.
I cross-checked proxy locations using IP2Location and ipinfo.io. The locations matched Webshare's claims. However, all proxies showed the same ISP (LeaseWeb Netherlands B.V.) according to ipinfo.io, suggesting they might share subnet ranges.
The IPs themselves are non-sequential, which is good for avoiding pattern detection. But the shared ISP could potentially be an issue if you need completely diverse subnet distribution.
This test revealed the main weakness. I tested the proxies against popular websites including Instagram, Twitter, Craigslist, Pinterest, YouTube, Amazon, Google, and Ticketmaster.
Some proxies couldn't access several websites, indicating they were either flagged or previously used. While most proxies worked across most sites, the inconsistency is noticeable. This suggests Webshare might recycle IPs faster than ideal.
Dual Authentication: You can choose between username/password or IP authentication. Having both options makes integration easier depending on your setup.
API Access: Download your proxy list as a .txt file for quick bot integration. No manual entry needed after refreshing.
Monthly Randomization: Refresh your entire proxy pool monthly with one click. No support ticket required.
Free Trial Proxies: New signups get 1,000 free proxies with limited bandwidth. This trial-before-you-buy approach beats blind purchasing.
High Anonymity: The proxies maintain strong anonymity levels, preventing websites from easily accessing your actual information.
The dashboard interface feels modern and intuitive. After signing up with just an email and password, you immediately access your control panel. The free 1,000 proxies appear instantly under Proxy → List.
Buying a plan takes three clicks: Subscription → Plans → Select your tier. Payment processing is straightforward.
Setting up authentication is equally simple. Navigate to your proxy list, choose your authentication method from the dropdown, and configure. If you're going with IP authentication, the system guides you through adding your authorized IPs.
The entire process from signup to active proxies takes under five minutes.
Webshare makes sense for specific scenarios:
Budget-conscious users who need decent quality without premium pricing
Data scrapers handling moderate to large-scale projects
Privacy-focused individuals browsing anonymously
Marketers managing multiple accounts across platforms
Anyone testing proxy services through their generous free tier

Webshare probably isn't ideal if you need guaranteed uptime for mission-critical operations, require SOCKS5 protocol support, need extensive geographic coverage beyond their 10 locations, or demand completely pristine IPs with zero previous usage.
Webshare delivers on its core promise: affordable proxies with solid performance. The speed tests genuinely impressed me, and the pricing beats most competitors in the budget category. The straightforward interface removes unnecessary friction from proxy management.
The compatibility issues and shared ISP infrastructure represent real limitations. Some of those proxies have definitely been around the block. But at these prices, expecting completely virgin IPs is unrealistic.
For the majority of users—those scraping data, managing multiple accounts, or maintaining privacy—Webshare offers strong value. The free trial removes risk from testing. Start there, see how the proxies handle your specific use cases, and scale up if they meet your needs.
The proxy market doesn't lack options. It lacks affordable options that actually work. Webshare fills that gap effectively, even with its imperfections.
