Te Tauihu Portable Stadium is a transferable performance space for nurturing and developing performance art in Wakatu/Nelson.
Performances at the Stadium are:
Informal and relaxed
By new and developing artists that have not really performed in public, or by artists getting back on the horse
Short sets (~20 minutes for music, 5 minutes comedy/poetry)
5-8 acts
A total of ~3 hours
A focus on original work
Imagine a short, informal performance by 6-8 developing artists in an intimate space that gives them an opportunity to perform in public, possibly for the first time...
...that's what we're trying to create with Te Tauihu Portable Stadium.
...performing for up to 20 minutes each, giving a short taster of their work. Te Tauihu Portable Stadium is a new concept for developing and nurturing performance talent in Te Tauihu/Nelson region.
To give developing artists a good step between jamming and a full live performance
To help develop and grow live, original music in the Nelson CBD
To nurture original talent and music to make the next step
To help venues discover artists to perform live at their business
Setting up informal performances for new talent in intimate spaces - easing into public performance
Nurturing new acts
Encouraging original works
Collaboration between artists
Encouraging collaboration between artists and venues
Further developing the live music scene in Nelson
Giving artists a testing ground for their new material
New performers who have not yet made the step to public performance
New performers who have got some original work
An opportunity to get back in to performing for those that have had a bit of a break
Bands, solo acts, dancers, poets, comedians...firebreathers?
The next step from jamming or the garage or performing in front of the mirror - how will your art be received?
Te Tauihu Portable Stadium can be located anywhere:
In a bar
In a performance space
On a stage in a public place
In a empty shop
The performers could possibly go on to perform:
At Tahuna Summer Sounds
At local bars
At Rockquest
At Wembley (we can dream!)
Our next venue is...
A planned and organised event held periodically - showcasing a range of developing acts
A chance for new artists to explore live performance
A performance space that can move location depending on need and season
Focused on growing new performers for Nelson
Encouraging performers from diverse backgrounds to participate
A collaboration between artists and venues
A way to encourage more venues to have live music and performance
A social media space to grow excitement about new artists
A competition
A random jam or open mic - artists have prepared and practiced their material
An event always at the same venue
Performances of existing acts
A weekly jam night with the same people over and over
Another chance to hear Wagon Wheel...
Competition with existing venues - we're trying to encourage more venues to have live performance
Only music - there's space for other arts to shine
A one-off event - we're planning to be here in the future to help grow performance art in Nelson
