Omari R. Lawrence was born in the Bronx, New York. Prior to deciding to attend st. John's after high school, he recieved scholarship offers from numerous institutions, including Georgetown, Pittsburg, and Xavier. Omari is a Big 12 Champion and former member of Kansas State University basketball team. While in school he was on honor roll and still holds academics in the highest regard. He earned a degree in family studies and human services from K-State in May 2013. He has played professional basketball in Slovakia and China.
Since then, Omari has worked in both public and charter schools, where he has taken advantage of the chance to educate and inspire the younger generation. Through coaching school teams, one-on-one training, and small-group tournaments, Omari has trained many young athletes.
Coach Omari Lawrence recently has been recogninzed as a Jr. Knicks/HSS Coach of the Year finalist.
The Junior Knicks Coach of the Year Award presented by Hospital for Special Surgery recognizes coaches that have a positive impact on youth basketball players and strengthen communities.
