So I finally solved this. First I thougt I'd describe how the project looked. Under references there was no reference to the office.dll file though this actually ended up in the published directory when computer1, which was able to publish a working copy, published the project. Also under properties->publish->ApplicationFiles the office.dll was listed as exluded.

computer2, which couldn't publish a working project, had the same installed programs as computer1. So I tried to add the reference to office.ddl, set it to copy local and include it in applicationfiles. Now there was a office.dll copied to the published directory but the same error appeared. installed and re-installed a bunch of programs, no improvement. After I've been trying alot of randomstuff I ended up copying the dll from computer1, referenced it, set it to copy local and included it. And, voila, it worked?

I would most definitely reset your office account password pre-hand. if you open office and click on account it will show you which account it is activated via, you can then reset the password for that account and access your Microsoft account.Warning: repairing office may trigger it to have you reactivate office.

I'm thinking of having 4 scripts (one for each Office product - excel, word, ppt, outlook), and 4 Policies that have triggers to install each program. Ideally, the script will look for Application versions, if the version found is outdated, it'll trigger the JSS Policy to install the office pkg.

I desperately need to recognise the Excel version of several users, and most importantly identify those with Office365 which was giving some trouble with parts of my VBA code and came accross your post.

Shouldn't there be a way to determine the exact Office version of post 2016 office (all giving 16.0 response to application.version function) by iqnuiring the application.build number without the need to look for registry entries ?!

Do we have to worry about our addins?

1) Get the 64 bit installer for office 365. I did this by downloading it from my office 365 online account (I have a university account). This requires spoofing your user agent string otherwise the install button doesn't show up online. I used a firefox extension to do this, and set it to use win7 64 bit user agent string. Once you've downloaded the installer,you can turn off or uninstall the user agent extension.
