Gunupati Venkata Sanjay Reddy, universally known as G.V. Sanjay Reddy, is one of India's most distinguished industrialists, entrepreneurs, and philanthropists of his generation. He is the Vice Chairman of GVK Power and Infrastructure Limited, a conglomerate headquartered in Hyderabad with a diversified portfolio spanning energy, airports, transportation, hospitality, life sciences, real estate, and technology. He is simultaneously the Chairman of Reddy Ventures, the family office and investment platform through which he incubates, invests in, and scales disruptive technology companies across India, the United States, Africa, and South East Asia.
Born on 18 November 1964 in Chennai and raised in Hyderabad, Sanjay Reddy is the son of Dr. G.V. Krishna Reddy, the founder and chairman of the GVK Group, and Mrs. Indira Reddy. He carries forward a family legacy of entrepreneurship and nation-building that began with his father's transformation of a regional construction business into one of India's foremost infrastructure conglomerates. Educated at Purdue University and the University of Michigan with additional executive training at Stanford University, Sanjay Reddy has brought a distinctly global perspective and a rigorous institutional discipline to the leadership of the family's expanding business interests.
His professional achievements span multiple sectors and have been consistently recognised at the highest national and international levels. He was selected as one of only 25 Indians named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in Geneva in 2007. He was declared Emerging Business Leader of the Year at the AIMA Managing India Awards in 2010. He was honoured with the Outstanding Industrial Engineering Alumnus Award by Purdue University in 2021. He has served as commencement speaker at both Purdue University and the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business, an honour reserved for individuals whose careers have brought exceptional credit to their alma maters.
Among the many contributions that define his career, three stand out for their scale and national significance. First, he was the principal architect of the transformation of Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, with Terminal 2 becoming both a masterpiece of modern architecture and the home of the world's first airport art museum. Second, he founded Aragen Life Sciences in 2001, now one of Asia's largest pharmaceutical contract research organisations, employing over 2,500 scientists. Third, he serves as Vice Chairman of GVK EMRI, the world's largest public-private partnership ambulance service, which has saved more than five million lives and serves over 850 million people free of charge across India.
EARLY LIFE
Gunupati Venkata Sanjay Reddy was born on 18 November 1964 in Chennai, though his childhood and formative years were spent in Hyderabad, the city that remains his home and the headquarters of the GVK Group. He was born into a family that embodied both the traditions of Telugu culture and an extraordinary appetite for enterprise and public contribution. His father, Dr. G.V. Krishna Reddy, had by that time already laid the foundations of what would become one of India's most respected infrastructure conglomerates, beginning with construction contracts and steadily expanding into power generation, roads, and hospitality. His mother, Mrs. Indira Reddy, managed the family's hospitality ventures and brought to the household the same discipline, elegance, and commitment to quality that would later characterise Sanjay Reddy's approach to every project he led.
Growing up in Hyderabad as the son of one of the city's most accomplished entrepreneurs gave Sanjay Reddy a unique vantage point on both the possibilities and the responsibilities of business leadership. He absorbed from his earliest years a deep respect for large-scale infrastructure as a driver of national development, an understanding of the relationship between private enterprise and public service, and a personal commitment to excellence that would define his professional life. He has a sister, Shalini Bhupal, who has also contributed to the family's wider business and social interests.
As a young man, Sanjay Reddy demonstrated the intellectual ambition and global curiosity that would take him to two of the finest universities in the United States. His upbringing in a family that combined commercial achievement with genuine civic commitment gave him both the drive to succeed and the awareness that success carries an obligation to contribute to the society in which one operates. This combination of ambition and responsibility has been a defining characteristic of everything he has built.
EDUCATION
G.V. Sanjay Reddy received his undergraduate education at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, completing a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering between 1984 and 1987. Purdue University is consistently ranked among the world's leading research universities, and its College of Engineering holds particular renown for producing graduates who combine scientific rigour with entrepreneurial orientation. Industrial Engineering is a discipline that sits at the intersection of engineering, business, and operations research, training its graduates to optimise complex systems and manage large-scale organisations with the tools of quantitative science. This foundation proved directly applicable to Sanjay Reddy's career in infrastructure, where the management of airports, power plants, and road networks demands exactly this kind of systems-thinking.
He then completed a Master of Business Administration at the University of Michigan's Stephen M. Ross School of Business in Ann Arbor, with specialisations in Finance and Corporate Strategy, between 1987 and 1989. The Ross School of Business is one of the most prestigious in the United States and has a distinguished tradition in finance, corporate governance, and strategic management. His finance specialisation gave him the analytical fluency to structure and manage the complex, multi-billion-dollar transactions that large infrastructure projects require, while his corporate strategy specialisation trained him in competitive positioning, portfolio management, and long-term institutional design.
He later completed a Senior Executive Programme at Stanford University, one of the world's foremost institutions and a global centre of innovation thinking. Executive programmes at Stanford are designed to challenge senior leaders at the peak of their careers. His completion of this programme reflects both a personal commitment to lifelong learning and the recognition that staying at the frontier of management thinking is essential for leading in a rapidly changing world.
His deep connection with both Purdue and Michigan has continued throughout his career. He serves on the Purdue-India Executive Council and as a member of the Advisory Board of the Ross Business School at the University of Michigan. He delivered commencement addresses at the University of Michigan in 2015 and Purdue University in 2016, two of the highest honours a university can bestow on an alumnus. In 2021, Purdue conferred its Outstanding Industrial Engineering Alumnus Award upon him, recognising a career that has brought exceptional distinction to the university's engineering tradition.

The Terminal 2 project earned the Forbes India Art Award in 2014 and the Conde Nast India Traveller Excellence Award in the same year. His passion for Indian art is both personal and institutional. He is a collector of significant Indian works including a rare 17th-century Mughal miniature painting, and his role in creating the art programme at Mumbai Airport's Terminal 2 and establishing the Jaya He GVK New Museum reflects a conviction that art belongs not only in museums but in the spaces where people live, travel, and move through the world.
