When I think about New York City, the first thing that comes to mind is how much there is to see. Between the skyscrapers, busy streets, and different neighborhoods, it feels like there is something interesting around every corner.
That is why I think New York is perfect for the city explorer. Instead of just listing famous attractions, I wanted to share places I actually visited and what made each one stand out to me.
New York is great for someone who likes being out and exploring without doing the same thing every day. You can spend part of your day looking at artwork in a museum, walk along the Hudson River, and end up in the middle of Times Square surrounded by lights.
Even walking through a different neighborhood can be memorable.
Of course, I could not talk about New York without mentioning Times Square. The giant advertisements, bright lights, and crowds make it unlike anywhere else.
I took my picture from the famous red stairs looking down at the people filling the street. The picture captures how busy it is, even after dark when the screens light up the surrounding buildings.
The crowds are part of the experience. If you have never been to New York, I would recommend seeing Times Square at least once!

One of the more unusual places I visited was the LINE FRIENDS store in Times Square. The thing that caught my attention was the giant Brown bear sitting inside. As you can tell from my picture, he is absolutely massive!
I stood next to him for a photo, and it is funny seeing just how small I look in comparison. The store also has plenty of colorful character merchandise.
Sometimes a random store ends up being one of the fun things you remember from a trip.
One of the most impressive views I saw was from Edge, an observation deck at Hudson Yards. Seeing all the buildings from above gives you a completely different idea of how enormous the city is.
In my picture, the buildings stretch across Manhattan with One World Trade Center standing out in the distance. You can even see the water beyond the city. This is one of my favorite photos and experiences.
If you like sightseeing or photography, I would definitely recommend Edge.
Little Island was one of the most unusual parks I saw in New York. It sits along the Hudson River on concrete structures that almost look like giant flowerpots rising out of the water.
What stood out to me was how the trees and greenery sit on top of these huge structures. You can see the design in my picture.
When people picture New York, I think they usually imagine traffic, skyscrapers, and crowds. Little Island shows another side of the city. It is worth checking out if you want something different from the usual tourist attractions!

I also visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art, better known as The Met. One thing that stood out to me was how impressive the building itself looked.
My picture shows one of the sculpture galleries with enormous columns and marble statues. The room itself almost feels like part of the exhibit.
With so many collections, you could easily spend hours exploring. I would definitely give yourself plenty of time if you plan to visit.
Chinatown showed me another side of New York. Instead of the giant screens of Times Square, the streets were lined with restaurants, markets, and colorful signs.
One of my favorite details was the lanterns hanging above the street, which you can see in my picture. Details like that make the neighborhood interesting to explore.
If you enjoy local shops and experiencing different cultures, Chinatown is worth visiting.
Getting around New York is very different from Costa Rica. Instead of traveling long distances between beaches and rainforests, you can use the subway to reach neighborhoods throughout the city.
I would recommend looking at subway routes before your trip because the system can seem confusing at first. Walking also lets you discover places you might otherwise miss.
Here is the official transportation website if you want help planning your route!
Here is a great guide on YouTube by Sarah Funk to help you navigate the subway system!
New York City is worth considering if you love sightseeing, exploring new neighborhoods, and finding something different to do each day. Every stop offers something different.
For our next destination, we will leave the skyscrapers behind and travel to the coast of France.
Next stop.....Marseille!
