AZOG THE DEFILE

GANDALF THE GREY
Gandalf was one of the five Istari sent to Middle-earth by the Valar in the Third Age. In Valinor he was known as Olórin. Gandalf was instrumental in bringing about the demise of Sauron in T.A. 3019, chiefly by encouraging others and dispensing his wisdom at pivotal times. Gandalf was originally robed in grey, and second to Saruman in the Order of wizards. Gandalf was noteworthy for his keen interest in Hobbits.
BOLG OF THE NORTH
Bolg of the North was a vengeful Orc chieftain, son of Azog, who led a great army in the Battle of Five Armies. He was crushed in the ensuing battle by Beorn.
THORIN II OAKENSHIELD
Thorin II, also known as Thorin Oakenshield, was the King of Durin's Folk from T.A. 2850 until his death in T.A. 2941, being the son of Thráin II, grandson of Thrór and older brother to Frerin and Dís. Thorin led Durin's Folk of the Blue Mountains during their time in exile. In T.A. 2941 he led the quest for Erebor accompanied by twelve Dwarves, Bilbo Baggins, and Gandalf the Grey; he briefly became King under the Mountain until he perished following the Battle of Five Armies.
SMAUG
Smaug was the greatest fire-breathing dragon of the Third Age. In T.A. 2770 he attacked the Lonely Mountain and the town of Dale. He claimed the treasure of the mountain for himself and forced Thrór, King under the Mountain, and his people into exile. Thorin's quest - with the help of his burglar Bilbo Baggins - to reclaim the treasure ended in success when Smaug was slain by Bard in T.A. 2941.
BARD THE BOWMAN
Bard, titled "the Bowman", was the descendant of Girion the Lord of Dale who slew the dragon Smaug and refounded Dale. He ruled his new kingdom as Bard I.
THE NECROMANCER
The Necromancer is an evil sorceror living in Dol Guldur. Necromancy is a type of magic that involves the use of the dead, and it seems to have been particularly abhored in Tolkien's world. In the Hobbit we don't know too much about him; he kind of hovers on the edge of the story as a well-known evil force.
However, later we learn that the Necromancer was actually Sauron, the Dark Lord, beginning yet another ascent to world domination.
BEORN
Beorn was a Skin-changer, a man who could assume the form of a bear. He aided Thorin and Company during their Quest of Erebor.

The Great Goblin was the chief of the Goblins who dwelt in Goblin-town beneath the High Pass in the Misty Mountains, and presumably was the leader of all the Orcs of the Misty Mountains. He was described as "tremendous" and had a huge head.
FRODO BAGGINS
Frodo Baggins, son of Drogo Baggins, was a hobbit of the Shire in the late Third Age. He is commonly considered Tolkien's most renowned character for his leading role in the Quest of the Ring, in which he bore the One Ring to Mount Doom, where it was destroyed. He was a Ring-bearer, best friend to his gardener, Samwise Gamgee, and one of three hobbits who sailed from Middle-earth to the Uttermost West at the end of the Third Age.
WITCH KING

The Witch-king of Angmar, also known as the Lord of the Nazgûl, was the leader of the Nazgûl (Ringwraiths) and Sauron's second-in-command during the Second and Third Ages of Middle-earth.
BALIN
Balin was a Dwarf leader, the son of Fundin, and elder brother of Dwalin. He was one of the thirteen Dwarves who accompanied Thorin II Oakenshield on the quest to regain the Lonely Mountain.
GOLLUM/SMEAGOL
Gollum, originally named Sméagol (or Trahald), was at first a Stoor, one of the three early Hobbit-types. The name Gollum was derived from the sound of his gurgling, choking cough. His life extended far beyond his nature, by the effects of possessing the One Ring. Sméagol was about 589 years old when he died, a remarkable age for a creature that was once a Hobbit, but he had been deformed and twisted in body and mind by the corruption of the Ring. His chief desire was to repossess the Ring that had enslaved him, and he pursued it for many years after Bilbo Baggins found it in Gollum's cave within the Misty Mountains. Inadvertently, Gollum would play a vital role in the ultimate Quest of the Ring.
DWALIN
Dwalin was one of the Dwarves who traveled with Bilbo and Gandalf as a member of Thorin and Company on the quest to regain the Lonely Mountain from the Dragon Smaug. He was the brother of Balin and the youngest son of Fundin.
TOM
Tom was one of the three Trolls (with Bert and William) that captured Bilbo Baggins and the Dwarves on their eastward journey. When Bert and William got into a row, Tom whacked them both with a branch to bring them to their senses, but that only made them angrier. Tricked by Gandalf, he was turned to stone by the light of the Sun.
KÍLI
Kíli was one of the thirteen Dwarves who took part in the quest for Erebor, which was Bilbo Baggins's great adventure. The brothers were the youngest of Thorin and Company by some 50 years, with Kíli being five years younger than his brother. The two brothers were inseparable throughout the adventure.
BERT
Bert was, with Tom and Bill, one of the three trolls that captured Bilbo Baggins and the Dwarves during their eastward journey. During the fight with Thorin II Oakenshield, Bert received the end of a flaming stick in his eye.[1] Tricked by Gandalf, he was turned to stone by the light of the Sun.
FÍLI
Fíli (T.A. 2859 – 2941 82 years old) was one of the thirteen Dwarves who took part in the quest for Erebor, which was Bilbo Baggins's great adventure. He was one of the three Dwarves of Thorin's company who did not survive the Battle of Five Armies (the other two being his uncle Thorin and his brother Kíli.)
WILLIAM
William Huggins, also known as Bill, was with Tom and Bert, one of the three trolls encountered by Bilbo Baggins and the Dwarves on their eastward journey to the Lonely Mountain.
GLÓIN
Glóin was a dwarf of Durin's Folk, the son of Gróin, the brother of Óin, and the father of Gimli of the Fellowship of the Ring. He is most famous as one of Thorin's companions on the quest to Erebor. 77 years after the Quest of Erebor, Glóin attended the Council of Elrond with his son Gimli, where the latter would represent dwarves in the Fellowship of the Ring
YAZNEG
Yazneg was a character in (and created specifically for) Peter Jackson's The Hobbit film trilogy. He was a fierce Orc captain and Warg-rider. In The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey he is the right hand and second-in-command to Azog the Defiler, leading his Hunter Orcs after Thorin Oakenshield and his band of Dwarves.
ÓIN
Óin (T.A. 2774 - 2994, 220 years old) was one of the Dwarves of Thorin's company who set out to reclaim Erebor from Smaug. Later, he followed Balin in an ill-fated attempt to retake Moria.
FIMBUL
Fimbul was one of Azog's Orc hunters in The Hobbit and the lieutenant of the vile Yazneg, who led the Orc hunters after Thorin Oakenshield and his band of Dwarves. Fimbul later becomes Azog's right hand and second-in-command after Yazneg is fed to the Wargs by Azog for his failures.
ORI
Ori was a member of Thorin's Company of Dwarves and participated in the Quest of Erebor, as well as fighting in and surviving the Battle of Five Armies. He, along with his cousins Dori and Nori, were remote kinsmen of Thorin II Oakenshield.
THE MASTER
The Master of Lake-town or "The Master" was the original leader of Lake-town when Bilbo Baggins and his companions arrived. He is described as being greedy, but not undeserving of his position in terms of intelligence and charisma. He was an acquaintance of Bard the Bowman, and the captain of the town archers, allowing him to remain in Lake-town while the Lake-men recovered from their ordeal with Smaug.
NORI
Nori was a Dwarf of Durin's Folk. He had a brother named Dori as well as a cousin named Ori, and was a remote kinsman of Thorin Oakenshield. His hood was purple, he played the flute, and he was very fond of regular and plentiful meals like his Hobbit friend, Bilbo Baggins.
ALFRID LICKSPITTLE
Alfrid Lickspittle was the deputy of the Master of Lake-town in TA 2941, and was relieved of the title prior to the Battle of Five Armies. Although a counselor is mentioned in the book, he is not named, so Alfrid is considered non-canonical.
DORI
Dori was a Dwarf of Durin's Folk, who, along with his brother Nori and cousin Ori, travelled with Bilbo Baggins and Thorin Oakenshield as a member of Thorin's Company on theQuest for Erebor, to reclaim the Lonely Mountain from the dragon Smaug. Dori was among the Dwarves at Bag End who joined in singing about "blunting the knives" and "bending the forks"; as well as accompanying by playing the flute. He was described as “decent fellow despite his grumbling”. He often wore a red-violet coat while on the Quest for Erebor. He was noted by Thorin to be the strongest of the thirteen companions.
BIFUR
Bifur was a Dwarf of the late-Third Age. He is best known for being a companion to Bilbo Baggins and Thorin Oakenshield on the quest to regain the Lonely Mountain, along with his cousins Bofur and Bombur.
BOFUR
Bofur was a Dwarf of the late-Third Age. He is best known as a companion of Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield, and Gandalf on the quest to reclaim the Lonely Mountain from the dragon Smaug, along with his brother Bombur and cousin Bifur.
BOMBUR
Bombur was a Dwarf who accompanied Thorin Oakenshield and Bilbo Baggins on their quest to the Lonely Mountain as part of the company, alongside his brother Bofur and cousin Bifur. Bombur was noted as the fattest Dwarf in the company.
DÁIN II IRONFOOT
Dáin II Ironfoot (or King Dáin), the son of Náin and great-grandson of Dáin I of Durin's Folk. He was a Dwarven King of Durin's Folk, the fifth King under the Mountain, and the Lord of the Iron Hills during the War of the Ring in Middle-earth. He got the name 'Ironfoot' for kicking an orc's head off during battle. Ironfoot was regarded as the greatest warrior of his time, and a hundred years after his death.
THRANDUIL
Thranduil, son of Oropher, was an Elven king who ruled over the Woodland Realm in the Third Age. Though inherently cautious, his army was key to victory in the Battle of Five Armies and he defended his realm against the forces of Sauron in the War of the Ring. He was the father of the Elven prince of Mirkwood, Legolas, who was a member of the Fellowship of the Ring.
LEGOLAS THRANDUILLIAN
Legolas was a Sindar Elf who was part of the Fellowship of the Ring in the Third Age. Son of the Elvenking Thranduil of Mirkwood, Legolas was Mirkwood's prince, a messenger, and a master archer. With his keen eyesight, sensitive hearing, and excellent bowmanship, Legolas was valuable to the Fellowship in their journey across Middle-earth.
TAURIEL
Tauriel was a Wood-elf of Mirkwood, and captain of the Elven guard of Thranduil's Woodland Realm. Tauriel is a non-canonical character; invented not by J.R.R. Tolkien, but for Peter Jackson's The Hobbit film trilogy.
