Twenty years ago, we made a simple but audacious promise to a group of young girls from my Peace Corps community: "If you stay in school, we’ll take care of the costs." We only had the initial commitment of 10 donors for a total of $1500 but I knew I would do anything to keep that promise.
What we didn’t know then was that a handful of people would join us in that promise and be as dedicated as we were, even though they’ve never met these girls and likely never would.
We are incredibly proud to share this news: the co-founders, the girls, and their families all agree: we can now say we have successfully and fully kept that promise.
The Little Big Women are no longer “little” and have earned the respectful Ghanaian title we always wanted for them: Big Women. Because our mission to support this specific group of girls through the full extent of their educational pursuits has been met, we have decided to end the work of the Little Big Women at the end of 2026.
To bring our 20-year journey to a responsible and celebratory close, we are launching a final capstone campaign to raise $9,000. This transition budget will allow us to:
Clear the Slate ($3,000): Cover the remaining school fees from the past academic year, ensuring all bills are paid in full.
Fund the Final Mile ($4,000): Pay the full tuition for the upcoming year for our three remaining students, officially supporting Esie and Faustina through their final year and providing Adom with a year of transitional support.
Honor 20 Years of Leadership ($1,000): Provide a transition gift to Isaac to honor his two decades of daily, on-the-ground dedication, which will also help fund his own daughter's future tuition.
Celebrate the Community ($1,000): Host a final, joyful gathering to invite all our participating girls and their families back to the community where it all started, publicly honoring their hard work.
We measure impact through the milestones our young women reach.
Young women in our program consistently stay in school longer than their peers.
We aim to support 100% of our young women through the important milestone of secondary school graduation.
