Ever wondered why I called this project "The Libramary?" Or maybe you're curious as to how this whole thing started. On this page, I will tell the story of The Libramary and how it came to be in the incarnation you see today!
The Libramary has been a project of mine dating all the way back to October of 2020, though the idea for The Libramary had been floating around in my head for a little bit prior. You see, The Libramary started as a place to catalogue all of the many books I was buying at the time. I used to be very interested in neo-paganism and neo-pagan rituals, and had been purchasing a variety of books on various spiritual and metaphysical topics. My collection was growing faster than I could keep up with, and the Libramary was created to both ensure I didn't purchase duplicate books as well as to organize the books from different spiritual practices together. One thing lead to another, and the Libramary was founded as a collection of books loosely organized in a Google Sheets spreadsheet. This original version of the Libramary existed all the way until I made this website, as I needed to reorganize each sheet to fit the specifications for the exporting process. The Libramary has gone through several changes and adaptations over the years as I've had more ideas or made more purchases. Most notably, I was looking to start researching queer manga and Yuri, and had wanted to ensure that I didn't purchase duplicates of any editions I had owned (the bookstore I used to buy manga from quite often has incomplete stock of the volumes for many series I am / was interested in reading). I didn't want to include manga with the rest of my books, as I was planning to own multiple copies in multiple languages, so a separate "wing" was created for any and all of my manga. Another section for my video games also exists within the Libramary, but this one has not been shared to The Libramary Online as I simply don't feel the need to share it at this time. Maybe it'll make it's way online, but I doubt that without a major overhaul to that section on my end, so no promises.
So why "Libramary?" Well, it's kinda silly, but it's actually a reference to one of if not my favorite archetypes from Hearthstone, Librams! Specifically the card Aldor Attendant, which can be seen below.
Aldor Attendant was one of the secret powerhouses of the original Libram package, as her cheap cost and permanent discount meant you could get a strong start with one or both of these early in a match. She is also effectively "free" since her discount is equal to her cost as well when playing with Librams.
I had needed to call the spreadsheet something, and the word "libramary" was a silly enough word that was close enough to library that I just started using it for the spreadsheet. As the spreadsheet grew and I added more pages to track different kinds of media, I started envisioning this grand, almost science-fiction-esk library in the middle of space to house all of the data that I was inputting. That's where a lot of the theming of the Libramary comes from, the idea of a massive floating library drifting through space and appearing to those who seek it's knowledge. It doesn't show much on your end, but the back end of the Libramary has all these moving parts from the different "wings" to the penetralium, and I am evermore excited to bring more to the Libramary and share more of my collection with the world.
Currently, The Libramary Online serves as a digital access point to my collections. I am working on mirroring some or all of my digital content and should have a new wing of the libramary up and running hopefully soon (took 2 months for the last update so fingers crossed). We are also constantly adding new books, and a series of update notes will probably make it's way on here at some point, probably as a separate page. All that being said, I hope you enjoyed learning a little bit about my Libramary, and I hope you enjoy the rest of your stay~
