Following the epic conclusion of the Erebonia arc in Trails of Cold Steel IV, the threat of the great twilight is no more and the world is finally getting ready for a period of peace. However, just when it seemed like everything was falling into place, a series of shocking events rocks Lloyd, Rean and the rest of the heroes that ended the great twilight, spurning them into action once more.

All right so a small update, I took advantage of the steam summer sale, and bought the trails in the sky trilogy. I just got to chapter two of the first game, and all I can say is wow. The music in the game is really nice, the story so far seems okay (im sure its going to get better). The thing that really got me going was the combat, combat for me really makes or breaks a game. The combat in the game feels like a cross between Final Fantasy and Fire Emblem. I just get into random battles because its so much fun. Its like a mini puzzle rather then a brainless mash attack.

While universe-styled media franchises are on the rise as a recent trend thanks to the incredible success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Falcom has been ahead of the curve with its multi-decade-spanning JRPG series, The Legend of Heroes. From the franchise's first game, The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky, Falcom set out to tell multiple stories within its interconnected universe on the continent of Zemuria. After three separate arcs spanning over nine games, we're finally at the culmination where all trails end (and begin?): The Legend of Heroes: Trails into Reverie. With a keen focus on storytelling, writing, and the conclusion of character arcs, Reverie successfully tells three stories that crescendo into a beautiful epilogue, nursing what may be the best Trails game we've seen yet.

There are a lot of great plot twists and intriguing reveals in Trails into Reverie, and when combined with the endlessly explorable and grindable Reverie Corridor, this latest entry of this historic series ended up ranking pretty high on my favorite entries list. As credits rolled and we bid farewell to Erebonia and Crossbell, knowing that this would be my last time with many of these characters, it was a bittersweet experience. Even though new threads and mysteries teasing the next arc, bidding a fond farewell to so many favorite characters got me choked up more than once. And in my heart, I know we will meet them again, but for now, my eyes are turned forward and to the east, towards Calvard and the trails ahead. e24fc04721
