Plot Summary

SCENE ONE

In a bustling plaza outside a towering "industry" building, writers, actors, and attendees gather for a WGA-SAG rally in 2023, protesting for fair treatment and compensation. Among them stands Michelle, an aspiring unproduced screenwriter, dressed differently from the crowd in a classic film t-shirt and worn-out sneakers. Veteran actor Leo, recognizing Michelle's nervousness, strikes up a conversation.

As renowned actress Fran Drescher and accomplished writer Barbara Kopple take the stage, the crowd's passion ignites. Fran emphasizes the importance of recognizing the contributions of actors and writers in a world where machines are beginning to encroach on creative jobs. Barbara passionately showcases a screenplay that played a role in instigating social change, underscoring the power of storytelling.

Brian Cranston, a figure of respect, delivers a rousing speech, asserting the fight is not only for better pay but for the dignity of being heard and creating without barriers. The event deeply impacts Michelle, and amidst the rally's noise, an idea takes root in her mind.

Curious, Leo inquires about her idea, encouraging her to embrace her inspiration while staying committed to the cause. Michelle reveals her premise, inspired by Cranston's speech—a simple yet powerful concept that forms the basis of a screenplay she's determined to write.

The scene fades to black as Michelle, invigorated by the rally and her newfound inspiration, embarks on the journey of penning her screenplay, "The Last Screenwriter."
