Brigada Eskwela: Key to Safe Learning
By: Leigh Antonio
This year’s Brigada Eskwela was considered one of the most awaited part in the lives of the students, parents, and teachers as it gave them hope and a new beginning for more a quality educational setting after having been locked inside their houses due to pandemic.
Tala High School’s implementation of Brigada Eskwela was consistently notable particularly in ensuring the orderliness and discipline of its students through strict and careful supervision by the school administrations, teachers, and organizations within the school. It is truly amazing to see that this established care was found in the entire BE period and is hopefully observed for the entire school year.
The “Brigada Eskwela 2022” of THS showed remarkable ways of preparing the school community for a safer and secured teaching and learning process where students and teachers’ holistic beings are prioritized.
In the whole duration of Brigada Eskwela, I can say that the programs and projects underwent thorough planning and execution. The Brigada team made a great job in securing that the school physical facilities like classrooms, offices, comfort rooms, corridors, buildings etc were painted and ventilated well to provide the students and teachers a more conducive and comfortable place for their teaching and learning processes.
However, classroom facilities were not the only things being prioritized, THS made sure that the school followed the standard health protocol for Covid 19. Our school looked for ways to provide each classroom the health kits that students may use for keeping them safe and far from contagious diseases. Furthermore, they also provided isolation rooms with complete first aid equipment. Our school clinic was made more equipped and comfortable. The health safety of everyone was given much attention and this was proven from school gates up to each room and school corners.
Aside from those mentioned, I would not forget to commend the BE team for providing projects and programs that supported the holistic being of the teachers and learners. Seminars and workshops whether online or in-person were truly meaningful. The Zumbalians Fitness, the convention about the importance of Wash In School (WINS), Psychosocial Support for teachers, Basic Occupational Safety and Healthy Activities and Mental Health Support for Learners, Basic First Aid, Fire Prevention Program, Community and School-based Brigada Pagbasa, Feeding Programs, Alumni Sports Festival and others were the ways how THS responded to BE’s theme, “Tugon sa Hamon Na Balik Aral”
The collective perseverance of the school’s leaders, departments, stakeholders, local government units, generous non-governmental organizations, supportive parents, and cooperative students who tirelessly supported the entire duration ultimately made the whole Brigada Eskwela program to be efficient and fulfilling.
The faculties of educational institutions need to prepare for face-to-face classes since a new normal has been brought about by the pandemic. Tala High School’s dedication to creating a safe and organized environment has helped its students become motivated to start their school year strong. Numerous committees comprising the many departments also made sacrifices that should not go unnoticed. Each department and level gave their utmost care and diligence to manage the endless programs in the Bridaga without errors.
Hats off to the implementation committee, the ESP Department, headed by Mrs. Merlinda Sambrano, to the Monitoring and Evaluation Committee, the Mathematics and MAPEH Departments, headed by Mrs. Ederlina Delos Santos and Mrs. Cecilia Fullero, to the Resource Immobilisation Committee, the Filipino and AP Departments, led by Mr. Alfredo Bonite and Mrs. Liezl J. Banal, the Advocacy and Marketing Committee, the Science and Technology and TLE Departments, led by Mrs. Chona Sto Domingo and Mrs. Marites Cortez, to the Attendance and Documentation Committee, English Department, headed by Dr. Bernadette Limson, and of course to Dr. Joel B. Salvador for his efficient and effective leadership.
The mere effort it took to arrange schedules and prepared materials for the projects were commendable. Tala High School outdid itself in ensuring a safe and organized welcome to the new school year of 2022-2023. Indeed, Brigada Eskwela offers us a key to a safer learning.
