1. There are already some organisms out there that eat certain plastics (not just the ones thought of as biodegradable, but the ones that aren't) like meal worms and Ideonella sakaiensis; a bacterium. We could genetically engineer a small amount of bacteria to do the same or use existing bacteria that are easy to grow in the lab; they could then replicate into larger numbers and devour the plastic in the ocean through decomposition. (This would work for plastics of all sizes; micro, macro, and mega plastics)
