Fosters

How do foster placements work?

The Goochy Project works with volunteer foster families to coordinate short-term placements for animals whose owners must attend to urgent needs that require them to be temporarily separated. By providing safe refuge for pets, foster families help us ensure that no one has to face the heartbreaking choice between accessing life-changing services and abandoning their furry family member.

You can apply to foster with The Goochy Project by filling out our foster application and consenting to a criminal background check. We will keep your details on file and will contact you if we receive an inquiry from a client whose pet may be a good fit for your home. The animal will be transported to you by a third-party driver; clients and foster families will remain mutually anonymous. If you have other pets and would like professional supervision while introducing the animals, this can be arranged by us, but advance notice is required.

As a foster parent, you are responsible for providing care, stimulation, and shelter for your foster animal. If desired, the Goochy Project can provide food and supplies. All clients are registered with the Doney Coe Pet Clinic, meaning that foster families will not be responsible for any veterinary costs incurred during a foster placement provided that appropriate procedures are followed. For further details, please consult our volunteer handbook.

The anticipated end date for a foster placement will be identified before the animal goes into your care. Foster families consent to release the animal promptly on the agreed-upon date, or within 72 hours if prompted earlier.
