To celebrate how long this projects been going, I decided to release some unfinished or miscellaneous material that I have on me still.
Mid to Late 2014 I started doing stick animations that would be quickly reworked into WHAT is more properly a truer origin of Glub Glub. Not much came from this iteration.
Late 2015 I started basically drawing and animating characters that would have more of the proper makeup that would become what Glub Glub is now.
Early to Mid 2016 I would have basically a semi-blueprint to Glub Glub. You'll see where everyone looks about the same but you can tell them apart from small details like how their eyes are. You start to see part of the style of Glub Glub in these appearing.
Problem being I very loosely based them off (just their personality and cartoon-ify it basically so it was like.. a caricature in a way?) my actual real life friends in which my relationships with would slowly start to dissolve over this year. Most of which haven't been in my life for years and refuse to speak to. So, there's that lmao.
This iteration would have the most work done in terms of fleshing out the idea as a whole and quickly began to decide in favor of ditching the concept of basing characters around my friends and go with new characters, so I decided to change it up one last time.
To describe how this iteration was imagine the short lived Glub Glub Adventures comics, they'd just go on random silly adventures and shenanigans would ensue. However, Adventures was executed differently and extremely short lived.
tl;dr Basically I ripped off Eddsworld with this specific iteration. I was like 14, give me a break lmao.
This is the only flipnote drawing I did of Glub Glub itself, just maybe a week or two after I just started the original short-lived run. Not that much to comment on about it.
The first image is basically a short lived idea of basically branding myself as "Evil Peppers Studios" or EPS for short and host it on discord. I didn't go through with it as obviously updates stopped about this year where I went through one a hard period of burnouts and mental health struggles.
The second and third image are the remaining piece of the first attempt at trying to finish the third part of the glub glub adventures update back in 2018, I never finished it cause I didn't like it and plus burnout obviously.
The original transition and 6th panel of the 2019 glub glub adventures update. Why did I remove/alter these? Because they look awful. Holy shit, I was just trying to finish the last part of the three part story and I just wanted to get over with it, I was still heavy in burnout and had other more important projects on my plate.Â
You could probably tell.
For some context, I had planned to bring the original comic back as far as 2020. I thought maybe finishing the story through a visual novel sort of thing, but that plan was quickly scrapped with the idea of being one person to handle an entire team load of work during probably one of the worst years of my life.
Â
Another way I thought of trying it would be by picking up where I left off on the original comic.Â
These files are dated May 3rd, 2020, through May 6th, 2020.
As you can see, I didn't get too far into it; I was finishing up my senior year in high school at this time during a pandemic. I was especially struggling with my mental health at the time, especially a few months prior when I ended a very toxic relationship.
Basically, it just got shelved again, especially with just the state of my life at the time hanging by a thread, which took well into 2021 to recover from a good chunk of that stuff. I'm still sort of affected by that year even as we (as I write this) head into 2024.Â
However, interestingly, you can see that I still had story beats planned out that I still ended up using when I managed to start it back up in 2022, and of course not everything was the same, as one of the bad guys pictured in panel 3 had a different role and was replaced by another character named Camm, I then rewrote the previous one to be the character you know now as Ecks.Â
Basically, this was a more unpolished version of what you have now; everything wasn't fleshed out that much, and I was just going off my instinct rather than at least brainstorming some ideas of what to do for the comic.
The very bottom picture is just a concept sketch I found in a notebook dated roughly around the same time.
When my attempt in 2020 went nowhere I decided I should crack a shot at completely redoing the comic and I even illustrated some key moments and stuff just to try it out. I didn't really do much with this after that. I just kind of quickly threw things together on this one in the fruitless effort of trying to get a feel for it again.
Just around the time I started Glub Glub back up, doodling for the hell of it. Nothing a lot to say, some were me trying to pin down character designs.
Various art style testing, facial expression, and senseless scenario stuff. Not much to comment on.
Onwards are doodles, some are testing some possible characters that didn't make the cut.
First row images: For fun I made a mock up theater production poster of Glub Glub. More specifically the second chapter. Really proud how this came out.
Second row images: I made glub-ified versions of two album covers. Power Chords by Mike Krol, and Oracular Spectacular by MGMT.
Third row images: Just random doodles of him without it being obfuscated.
Fourth & Fifth row image: are just character guides and a random doodle.
Just various amount of random doodling of characters and some random scenarios. There isn't much to comment on with these.
