Day 1: Hannover – The Gait Circuit Begins!
After five trains and over eight hours of travel from Konstanz, Ariana finally met Anni in Hannover to kick off the Gait Circuit Round Robin study. Despite an early train cancellation complicating the journey, she made it – and was warmly welcomed with cake by Anni and Magnus Reulbach.
Before diving into data collection, Prof. Christof Hurschler gave Ariana an extensive tour of the impressive facilities at the Laboratory for Biomechanics and Biomaterials. From a fully equipped gait laboratory to robotic testing systems and implant biomechanics setups, the lab showcases the full spectrum of orthopaedic biomechanics research – a fitting start to our multi-site journey.
Then it was time for the real work: our first standardised measurements using the MiKneeSoTA marker approach, which will be later combined with REFRAME harmonisation. Magnus kindly supported the data collection, and we successfully completed all trials for Day 1.
One down, four labs to go! Tomorrow we head to the Waldkliniken Eisenberg to visit Dr. Leandra Bauer and Prof. Dr. Matthias Woiczinski.
Stay tuned for updates as we continue our circuit through Germany and Switzerland!
