So what does this have to do with The Farm, a 2018 horror feature written and directed by Hans Stjernswrd? It is a crude film, but not a confronting one. It has the sleazy, vicarious cadence of a Hostel or a Wolf Creek, but not the accompanying graphic violence. Here any horrible acts of torture or murder are either soft-balled and sanitised or simply implied instead. The result is a film that purports to play in the same sandpit as extreme cinema, but when push comes to shove is too afraid to showcase the visceral horror off which it wants to leverage a reputation. Effectively it is torture porn for cowards.

Nora and Alec (Nora Yessayan and Alec Gaylord) are a young couple travelling by car through the countryside. They stop off at a local diner for a meal. They refuel their car at a service station. When Alec is tiring and wants to rest for the night, they rent a room at an isolated set of holiday cabins. When they wake, they have been stripped naked and chained inside wire cages by a masked group of farmers who use humans as livestock.

The basic concept of The Farm is sound, and it is suitably horrific. In practice it is one of the weakest horror films that I have sampled in some time. Its failings are extensive and numerous. A laboured first act tracks its leads through a series of stereotypical backwoods encounters through rural America: they meet the creepy service station attendant, the elderly religious zealot, and a diner waitress who presses burgers on them with almost physical force.

Charlie's Farm is a 2014 Australian slasher film written and directed by Chris Sun. It tells the story of the violent history of Charlie's Farm, brutally brought to life when four horror seeking youths stumble across a legend that refuses to die. The film stars Tara Reid, Nathan Jones, Allira Jaques, Bill Moseley, Kane Hodder, Dean Kirkright, and Sam Coward.

In the 1980s, John Wilson and his wife Meredith are farmers, murderers and cannibals. The local townspeople, led by Blue, confront the couple over a slew of missing backpackers, which included Amber, whom the two had just murdered and eaten. After an argument, Blue shoots John dead while Meredith escapes with their mentally handicapped son Charlie. Meredith manages to hide Charlie before being caught, interrogated and beaten to death by the locals while Charlie watches. Charlie is never seen again, and is presumed dead.

The next day, desperate to find the farm, Jason calls their boxer friend Tony Stewart for directions. Tony warns them to be careful at the Farm. Arriving at the gate to the property, they decide to walk to the farmhouse. Upon exploring the house, Melanie finds an old teddy bear of Charlie's and decides to keep it. In the middle of the night when the group are sleeping, Melanie awakens to see an enormous, hulking figure looming over them; the full-grown Charlie.

Melanie dismisses it as a dream. Morning comes and two backpackers, Gordon and Alyssa, arrive at the farm for the same reason as the group. Later on the group decides to split up and explore the property. Gordon and Alyssa come upon a barn which appears to be Charlie's base of operations. Charlie ambushes them and kills Gordon with an axe to the chest and Alyssa by crushing her head beneath a tractor wheel. Meanwhile, Mick and Melanie discover a lake and go skinny dipping.

They are amazed at Charlie who is watching them from the dam. Mick goes to confront Charlie, naked, who cuts off Mick's genital and shoves it down his throat, killing him. Melanie runs and is chased through the woods but is killed when Charlie rips out her lower jaw. Natasha and Jason find another barn. Jason insists they go inside but Natasha refuses and waits. Tony, fearing for the group, goes to the Farm to check on them. Meanwhile, Jason, who was taking a long time inside, alarms Natasha who follows him in. Jason warns Natasha to be quiet as he finds Charlie roaming inside the barn.

Tony arrives and faces Charlie head-on in hand-to-hand combat. Jason tries to assist, but Tony is killed when Charlie tears out the skin on his neck. Jason is then also killed when Charlie slits his throat in front of Natasha. Natasha flees but is knocked unconscious and captured by Charlie. She then wakes up in an underground chamber, breaks free and escapes, discovering many corpses of Charlie's previous victims. Old Blue, the elderly patron from the pub, appears and assists Natasha in escaping. Charlie, however, catches up to them and kills Old Blue with an axe to the back. Natasha takes Old Blue's rifle and shoots Charlie in the chest, seemingly killing him. She gets to Old Blue's truck, but Charlie, who survived the gunshot, surprises her by impaling her with a rifle in her stomach, pulling out her guts, which he tosses away after killing her. Charlie then picks up her dead body and goes back to his land.

Charlie's Farm premiered in Australian theatres on 4 December 2014, and was released in the United States on 1 March 2015. The Blu-ray and DVD of the film was released on 17 June 2015 in Australia and UK.[2] It was also released on 25 July 2015 in Germany in mediabook format by Meteor Film.[3]

Overall, "Charlie's Farm" did not receive widespread critical acclaim upon its release, with many reviewers finding it to be a fairly typical slasher film with some notable flaws. However, as with many horror films, opinions on it may vary among viewers, and some may appreciate it for its gore and adherence to the genre's conventions.

However, Chris Coffel from Bloody Disgusting gave the film a mostly positive review, commending the film's kills, and entertainment value, while noting the film's weak story, and bad acting.[2] Dan Caps from HorrorNews.net rated the film a score of two out of four, criticizing the film's lack of character development, script, performances, and third act, calling the film "unsatisfying". Caps however, commended the film's cinematography, sound effects, and special effects.[6]

A Los Angeles couple, Nora and Alec, find themselves lost while driving through the countryside. They come across a way-station and pull over, however, they find it closed. Nora wanting to find a bathroom goes to check the back and finds the remains of a camp where she finds a discarded wallet and cellphone. Tossing the items aside, she relieves herself only a couple of feet from where a human skull is seen hidden in the tall grass. Back in the car, Nora talks to Alec about the abandoned camp behind the way-station, noting the things that were left behind. Alec isn't too worried about the discovery, as he is more concerned that the car is running low on gas.

Further on, the couple encounter a woman who's car has died. Alec offers to jump start her car which the woman accepts. While Alec goes to bring the car over and his cables, the woman asks Nora if she is married to Alec. Nora states its none of her business, which the older woman takes offense to, stating people like her are irresponsible and begins insulting the couple. Alec is unable to fix the car much to the woman's annoyance. Nora tells Alec to leave, leaving behind the woman.

Finding a diner along the way, the two enter for a meal. Alec notices that a male patron is staring at them and the two decide to leave. Just as Nora goes to the door, the man tells her she is not "safe here." Nora shrugs off his warning and the couple leave the diner. Alec is concerned about the man, but Nora thinks he was just a "weirdo." Stopping at a gas station to fill the car, Alec asks the cashier for a place to lodge and is directed to some rental cabins up the road. Finding a rustic cabin, Nora is creeped out by the place and initially thinks it to be empty. They are shocked by the appearance of the crooked face landlord. The landlord kindly greets them and hearing that they are looking for a room, guides them to a cabin. He and Alec enter into a conversation, though Nora finds the man disturbing and cuts the dialogue short. Alec is put-off by Nora's divisiveness towards their host, yet his companion feels something is off about him. Unbeknownst to the couple, the top bunk bed of the room is bloodstained.

At night, the pair go to bed. As they fall asleep, a man wearing a sheep mask has been hiding beneath the frame. Climbing from beneath the bed, the masked man looms over the couple menacingly. The next morning, Nora awakens to find herself in a wire dog cage. Panicking, she attempts to free herself and calls for Alec. A goat masked man appears and thumps her cage to be silent before disappearing. Taking the chance, Nora spots a rock outside her cage. With difficulty, she manages to squeeze her hand through the mesh, grab the rock and attempts to use it to bash the lock of her cage. The goat-man returns with a man wearing a cow mask, who proceeds to pour a canister over her head.

Nora soon awakens in a barn strapped to a chair with her legs parted. A rabbit masked vet comes and proceeds to forcibly inseminate her. Back in her cage, Nora is to pulled on a cart and sees other masked men and women doing various chores. She even spots one butchering a male corpse. Taken to a barn, she is locked in a stable.

Alec awakens and finds himself in a cage as well, stripped of his clothes and gagged. He is not alone, together in a barn with other men, he watches in horror as the masked men come in and begin bashing two of the captive men with a hammer from the tops of their cage, after securing them with a control pole like animals. Alec attempts to resist and escape through the opening, but is knocked out. His unconscious body along with the other two men are loaded on a trolley to a slaughterhouse.

It's revealed that the compound is a farming commune full of silent people wearing animal masks. The livestock being humans; men being captured and slaughtered for meat and women raised for milk. The meat is used to supply a catering service for weddings and the like. The landlord having taken an order that requires more meat, decides to use one of the dairy livestock. At the dairy barn, where several cage lactating women are kept, the landlord reviews their production rates before turning his attention to a mother with her baby. Taking her baby, he proceeds to measure its weight before having his henchman smash its skull on the ground and taking the body away. After the landlord and his man leave, the mother hysterically cries for her child. One of the commune people, an unmasked slow-minded man named Andrew, attempts to console her, though he speaks to her like a pet, only for the woman to lash out at him, calling him sick. Furious and hurt, he calls her a bad "human." One of the hands comes to investigate the dairy barn and finds that Andrew had killed the woman and reports it to the landlord. Disappointed, he orders the others to find Andrew. 152ee80cbc
