This trip is one my fellow delegates and I will never forget.
As we sat on the rooftop of our Haifa hotel, the historic Mount Carmel watching over us, I reflected on the stories we heard, the people we met and the souls that we were now connected to forever.
Would they remember us? The question kept resounding in my head. I looked down at my wrist and stroked the friendship bracelet made by a child in Hebron during our home stay. Though language was a barrier, as she looked into my eyes I understood her as though we had known each other since birth.
I will never forget Palestine.
The beauty of her land, her people, and their struggle will stay with me.
I saw a Palestinian sunbird as we were driving back to the airport to leave. To me, it symbolized that everything I had witnessed on this trip could never compare to what it means to exist in that space consistently, with no choice but to persist.
The sunbird, like Palestine, represents resilience and dignity.
