Tyler L Chang
I am an ethicist who employs programmatic and mathematical methods to conduct research at the intersection of human-computer interaction (HCI), existentialism, and artificial intelligence (AI). I am generally interested in questions relating to the alignment problem of AI, with a special focus on establishing concrete criteria for evaluating what harms caused by AI are morally acceptable to trade on for the promise or potential of the greater good. My most recent research focuses on the dangers of AI companions and digital intimacy as a substitute for human-to-human connections.
I am currently a PhD student in the Information Science (IS) department at Drexel University (advised by Dr. Afsaneh Razi), where I research how AI risks affect youth populations and how best to address AI-driven sexual violence on social media.
