Tom Kennedy has been teaching Technology Education in Newfoundland and Labrador since 2008. His current assignment is with an independent school in Churchill Falls, Labrador, as a Skilled Trades and Technology (7-12) instructor. The Educatinal Playground platform is an effort to contribute resources to the larger technology integration professional learning community.
At the provincial level, Tom has facilitated sessions to teachers on the integration of educational technology and the potential for innovation. He has been an active member of the Technology Education Special Interest Council (TESIC) of the Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers' Association (NLTA), having spent 8 years on the Council's executive. In 2014, Tom co-founded the Summer Institute of Technology Integration (SITI), a professional learning event offered in partnership with government, industry and post secondary institutions in NL.
Tom is currently enrolled in the Doctor of Education, Learning Sciences Cohort, at the Werklund School of Education – University of Calgary. His research interests are grounded in maker learning environments (MLE), competency development in maker education, and student identity in technical worlds.
