About Us

The East Grand School Virtual Makerspace is located in the East Grand School in Danforth, Maine. The Makerspace is developed as a collaborative dream between Jennifer Gilman, mathematics teacher at East Grand and Camden Bock, doctoral student at the University of Maine in Orono. Camden promised to help Jennifer create the Makerspace if she could secure funding. Jennifer received a grant from Kepware Technologies in Portland, Maine which set the creation in motion. With the support of her school, the GEAR Up program, David Perloff from the Perloff Foundation and Justin Dimmel, professor at the IMRE Lab at UMO, Camden and Jennifer were able to create the Makerspace in the fall of 2017. The Makerspace currently has 2 Vive Virtual Reality set ups in a Lab setting, 3 Flashforge Finder 3D mobile printers, and Legos. The Makerspace is run by a Dream Team of students head up by Ms. Gilman. They do trainings for other students and staff at the PreK - 12 school and also attend trainings at the IMRE Lab in Orono. Our Vision

The Vision of the East Grand School Makerspace is to implement modern technology into the school system. We want students to be exposed to current technology so they will have experience using this equipment before they even graduate high school. The Makerspace hopes to create makers of and with technology, not just consumers.
