The Division 2 Hacks

The Division 2 Hacks with aimbot and wallhack

Cheats and hacks. The PC version of The Division in particular is plagued by these annoyances. A few days ago the statement of a network expert caused a stir: he suspected that due to the server structure of Massive the cheats could never be completely fixed - unless the development team completely rewrote most of the net codes and game codes.

Anders Holmquist, Technical Director of Massive, commented on these speculations about the server infrastructure in a podcast.

Can The Devision 2 Hacks be detected ?

In a conversation with community developer Hamish Bode, Holmquist talks about the server infrastructure of the MMO shooter. We summarize the most important statements in key points:

The Division has a comprehensive online infrastructure. Massive has Dedicated Servers distributed all over the world, such as in Sydney, Hong Kong, on the West and East coasts of the USA and in several locations in Europe. This counteracts lags and bad pings.

Matchmaking depends on several factors: where you are, where your friends are, your ping. It can happen that players from Europe, for example, end up on China servers when the Europe servers are full. Matchmaking is not strictly based on region, you can meet agents from all over the world.

When you log into the game, matchmaking begins. Gear Score and other factors are taken into account, which will massively improve the individual gaming experience. This all takes place during the loading screen when logging in. Another matchmaking takes place when you enter safehouses or when you are near the dark zone.

The matchmaking for the Dark Zone does not start when you step through the door, but "much earlier". The roadblocks that represent the entrances to the double room are for gameplay purposes only. Matchmaking is already complete when you get close to this. The shots and explosions that you hear outside the dark zone take place in real time in the double room.

There were numerous problems during beta because the server was not properly reviewing what was happening. Most of these problems have now been fixed, but according to Holmquist there are still bugs that are more difficult to solve. For these, better and better cheat detection systems are being added, for example to limit the problem with the fire rates on the PC.

When cheaters are reported, the team reviews all reports. Massive can see many details about registered players.

The Division is both an MMO and a shooter, so the servers have to meet several requirements: While other shooters have 32 players on one server, for example, The Division has thousands of players with an additional tens of thousands of NPCs.

Furthermore, you don't want to kick players with bad pings because you can play The Division solo too. In other multiplayer shooters, players with a ping over 200ms would not be allowed to access the server. The Division has a “hybrid solution” here.
